I live just outside LA and my biggest concerns for getting the iPhone were: 1. the issue with bad 3G reception 2. the cracking of the plastic back. I've only had the phone for about a week so I'll give it another week and check if there's an issue with the plastic. As for the reception, I've had no problems whatsoever to this point. I've gone out to West LA a few times and the 3G reception was great. I got three to four bars for the most part and in the places where 3G was spotty, the EDGE reception was relatively good. I have not had any dropped calls yet due to the signal switching from 3G to EDGE as some people have noted in other discussions. I drive on the 60 freeway quite often from the Diamond Bar area to West LA and there are only a few places where the 3G reception is spotty. (BTW... the google maps application on the phone has saved me from nasty traffic on the 60 and 10 freeways).

It wouldn't really matter then, since T-Mobile USA is using the old AWS frequency for their 3G (1700 MHz) whereas at&t is using 850 MHz, and others are using PCS (1900 MHz) or 2100 MHz and the iPhone only supports 850, 1900, and 2100.

TEG

But it still ought to function in 2.5G mode on T-Mobile's network, right?

not a problem here in wpb Florida. A few dropped calls here and there but I had the same issue with the tilt atleast on the iPhone it says call failed. The tilt you would know who's call dropped it would just end.

No bumping allowed in these forums, by the way.

Compared to Verizon (in the D.C. metro area), it sucks, but it's worth it to me to use the technology.

I use my iPhone for everything. My old Verizon "smartphone" used to just sit in my messenger bag all day.

sorry about bumping

Sorry about the bumping, I guess I missed that when I read the rules for posting on the site.

At&T service a failure in Baltimore

Well, I have had at least 50% of my calls "Failed" in the Baltimore, MD region. This happens regardless of the number of bars I get. The problem is so irritating, that I am heading back to Apple this week...because the web service stinks too. What's the point of having such a great device when I can't use it. In fact, most of the time, my email won't make the connection either - again, even with 5 bars on 3G.

I've been with att now for over two years and i can count the number of dropped calls on 1 hand. They have overall very good coverage in WI (i go up north a lot and I still get like 4 bars). The crappy thing is that ATT service SUCKS ASS indoors (like in school or at home). Other than that, I'm quite happy with Att.

I get ZERO AT&T signal inside the building at work. Verizon, on the other hand, has microcells around the building (a sizable medical campus) so there's good signal everywhere, even deep in the basement. I smell collusion.

I'd kill for AT&T service like that inside the building.

Seems fine everywhere else (home, movie theaters, the mall, restaurants, etc).
