Now where are those people who said the competition would decrease prices and increase data limits/service quality. I need to bang their heads together. I'll be sticking to Apple for all of my future unsibdized purchases from now, to hell with AT&T and Verizon.

If you are already paying that much, whats another $50, right? Personally, I would never buy an iPhone at the unsubsidized price. It is just way too expensive.

Wow...I don't mean to play arm chair CEO here...but seriously??

Verizon's $50 overcharge over Apple's own prices was universally panned and considered über greedy. And now AT&T...which finds itself taking a back seat to all the Verizon hype and media attention....they decide to copy a pretty obscene maneuver right from Verizon, rather than highlight the greed outright and get some good press?

Unbelievable...I mean...really unbelievable.

maybe it's what apple charges them and they have been eating the 50 dollars to match apple all along. Then apple would be the greedy one.

The more and more I read/hear about the Verizon iPhone and AT&T's response to each move, the more I become convinced that there is price fixing going on. The only moment of genuine competition occurred when ATT reintroduced the unlimited $30 data plan, and even then that isn't permanent.

A pox on both their houses maybe...

I was one of those people. You'd think competition would drive pro-consumer practices, but as long as demand is as high as it is for the iPhone, they'll squeeze every stinkin' penny out of us. Filthy animals.

Guess I'll eat my words.

Are those unlocked? Or just not tied to a contract?

Just without a contract.

Couldn't agree more, too bad it'll never be proven.

If you are already paying that much, whats another €37 ($50), right? Personally, I would never buy an iPhone at the unsubsidized price. It is just way too expensive.

You are of course aware that you're paying considerably way more for a contract iPhone, right? AND AT&T doesn't even unlock their phones at the end of the contract.

It doesn't matter what they charge since people will pay for it anyway, they know it and so do we :(

True, but at this point you can't unlock an AT&T phone no matter what the circumstance. If you buy a non-contract phone, you're paying for that on top of the 2 year contract with AT&T. Might as well get the contract phone with AT&T.

Well the 3GS is a tad cheaper.
I would never buy an unsubsidized iPhone (just not worth the price to me). Hopefully Apple doesn't change their pricing.

How? at&t doesn't reduce their monthly plans if I buy the phone outright. The cost is the same. The only difference is that I can leave without paying an ETF.
