I just don't see how they could do this to people who are not tethering. I can see why they don't like you to use a ton of data, but that shouldn't give them the right to change a contract

You obviously don't understand what you are trying to tell other people.

"Accordingly, AT&T reserves the right to (i) deny, disconnect, modify (read: change your plan) and/or terminate Service, without notice, to anyone it believes is using the Service in any manner prohibited (read: unauthorized tethering) or whose usage adversely impacts its wireless network or service levels or hinders access to its wireless network, including without limitation, after a significant period of inactivity or after sessions of excessive usage and (ii) otherwise protect its wireless network from harm, compromised capacity or degradation in performance, which may impact legitimate data flows."

that quote was in response to this reply you posted:

If that were the case, anyone without a iPhone who wanted out of their contract could just throw their sim in an iPhone and leave when they added iPhone data.

You're just picking at my replies and switching them around.

Either way, I don't want to hijack this thread with our back and forth banter. Apparently OP had his issue fixed with ATT anyway.

You said that this was grounds for ending the contract without an ETF, quoting an irrelevant bit of the contract.

I corrected you stating that the bit you quoted did not apply to the subject and that the ETF would still be charged.

You quoted more of the contract, this time quoting the bits that DID apply. These bits saying exactly what I said in the first place, that the ETF still applies.

I fail to see how I am picking at your replies or twisting them around.

If your not tethering, don't worry about it. The entire conversation is about tethering w/o the required plan. If their scan returns a false positive, just let them know.

Incidentally, they have no obligation to provide you service. However, if they unilateral decided to change your plan or drop you without cause you will not be responsible for the EFT. Sprint has done this in the past to trim out high demand users.
