AT&T Switching the name of all cell towers for iPhone launch

no big deal, but within the past 10 minutes my phone went from saying "Cingular" to "AT&T"

found it interesting.

Did you update your roaming lists/PRL? Power-cycle your phone?

This may happen at different times based on what area you're in when you update your roaming lists. Maybe in your area they're all colocated towers and they're slower to get updated. Who knows.

Anyway, it's good that they're getting brand ID unified. Probably not worthy of a thread though. We're clogged up here an iPhone land, and good threads are drowning.

no **** buddy, obviously they are switching because their name changed, but dont you think that MAYBE they will push to get them all changed before friday? i dont know, its a novel idea.

so do you have confirmation that they are changing the names because of the iphone launch?

no, but one can put two and two together that AT&T is making an ATTEMPT to change the name of their cell towers so when one turns on their iphone it says AT&T and not Cingular.

My wife's RAZR switched over a couple of months ago, but mine still says Cingular... hah. I tried power cycling it. How do you do the tower update thingy again?

Last week the ATT store signage said Cingular. When I drove by yesterday, it had a big ATT canvas banner over the sign. Could be just so people know it's an ATT store to get an iPhone, but it also stand to reasons they want to get their branding in order to maximize the publicity.

My phone still says Cingular.
