I just checked my iPhone 5 unlimited data and Facetime was switched on. So was a co-worker of mine. We tested it out and it works great. I check last month and it said I needed to change my wireless plan. Im happy about it.
But they'll still throttle you down to 2g speeds if you use more than 3GB on 3G or 5gb on LTE. AT&T is garbage. Unlimited my ass
Yup, it suddenly materialized on my iPad 3 (Grandfathered unlimited) recently -- now do my iPhone 4S please! My iPad mini Facetime over cellular was activated about three weeks ago. I have a grandfathered unlimited plan from the original ipad, but don't use Facetime much at all, especially enough to see how much I might get throttled if I use too much data.
Shame licensing issues kept "FaceTime" from being cross-platform/open source.
well think calling your kids when you have been on the road for two weeks. Thats really where facetime shines.
Daily calls are not really its forte
Details, please — first time I'm hearing anything about licensing issues.
The VirnetX case might also shed some light on why FaceTime isn’t open. When introduced in 2010, it was said that FaceTime would become an open standard. Many have speculated as to why that was. It may be that Apple found that they could not legally open FaceTime when some of the technology behind it was not industry-standard and under someone else’s patents. While it seemed a longshot in the first place, with the VirnetX victory, the hope of an open FaceTime, appears to be gone.
Steve Jobs said at the 2010 WWDC:
"And we’re going to take it all the way. We’re going to the standards bodies, starting tomorrow, and we’re going to make FaceTime an open industry standard".
a Voice Only FaceTime option would be huge.
My favorite part is that all you entitled douchebags bitch about at&t blocking FT and when they give you what you want, you STILL complain!! It's the only reason most of you are on these forums so that whine about how you are treated like **** when all you do is buy into corporate America every chance you get!
Gotta love AT&T and their fake unlimited plans. Was there really any good reason for restricting FaceTime in the first place?

In a statement to The Verge on the future of pre-loaded apps, AT&T today revealed that it is planning to offer FaceTime over cellular to all of its customers on any data plan by the end of 2013.When FaceTime over cellular was announced alongside iOS 6, AT&T initially restricted the service to its customers that subscribed to a Mobile Share data plan. AT&T soon expanded access, first to customers on a tiered data plan with an LTE device, and then to all customers with a tiered data plan regardless of device. Only customers with a grandfathered unlimited data plan were restricted from using the service.
AT&T plans to allow its unlimited customers with LTE devices access to FaceTime over cellular beginning in June, with full access to all customers becoming available by the end of the year.

I'm still grandfathered in on their unlimited data plan. Doesn't look like this will change anything for me.Although I'm not surprised.
... there are a lot of situations where video is not appropriate -- a Voice Only FaceTime option would be huge. Please Apple, make it so!
I hope Apple follows up by adding "mute video" mode (audio-only) on FaceTime for iOS 7 and OS X 10.9.
Isn't that, um, a basic phone call? Honestly, I'm not meaning to be sarcastic, what is the difference? Or do you mean over WiFi and not AT&T's network?![]()
I'm grandfathered Unlimited...on an iPhone4.....so, by the end of the year I'll finally be able to FT over cell...not just wireless. About damn time.
Actually, it will "change things" for you if you have an iPhone 5...You will now be able to Facetime over celluar by June. Which you couldn't do. And if you have any other iPhone, you will be able to FT by years end.
