The NEXT plan is NOT a two year agreement... Never has, never will be.

The NEXT plan is different than a two year contract.

Correct, but as previously mentioned, if you're grandfathered on at&t's unlimited, you can either sign a new two-year agreement or opt for the NEXT plan and still keep unlimited. There's no "show me how you can do this" because those specific options are available only to grandfathered unlimited at&t customers.

WTF! Not cool at&t

I just went to at&t and got a 6S on early upgrade. I kept my unlimited plan, and it actually works out as I was about to buy a 64gb 6S off of CL for $600. Now when the 7 comes around I have to pay full price :(

No, no.

They didn't sign a new two year agreement. AT&T would've kicked them off the unlimited plan if the customer did that.

Customers had to buy a phone at full price and retain the current agreement if they wanted to keep their unlimited data.

There's no way AT&T was willing to keep people on an unlimited plan like that when users switched over to the NEXT program.

Dude,

You're paying $749 for the phone either way.

AT&T wouldn't take a hit on their profits and give you a $500 discount on the phone.

And they will recoup that when my 2 year contract ends in September, but yet I still keep having to pay it at long as I stay with AT&T

This is not true; I've had unlimited plan with at&t since the first iPhone & have kept unlimited while re-signing a new 2 year contract & getting the subsidized pricing each time

Oh really? Then please explain to me how my wife and I have managed to keep our unlimited when we signed new two-year contracts with at&t for our iPhone 6s?

I can't tell what made people hotter:
  1. When AT&T dropped the Unlimited Plan for new accounts
  2. When AT&T started Throttling Unlimited Plans after 3GB (5GB after the iPhone 5 was released)
  3. When AT&T stopped offering Subsidized 2 Year Contracts
  4. When AT&T does anything because deep down most people enjoy complaining and groaning
Maybe I should make a poll.

The two options you have is sign a new contract and get a subsidized device or sign up for next (you are no longer in contract, but you are also not forced out of your unlimited plan).

At no point is anyone claiming that a next plan refreshes a two year contract.

The next plan when coupled with unlimited data is absolutely more expensive than buying a phone under the subsidized price and signing a two year contract. It's strictly worse in every way because, not only is it more expensive, you have to pay the remaining balance on the phone should you decide to leave ATT, so it's like you're under contract (for all intents and purposes) AND att still has the right to change unlimited on you (though there is no evidence of them doing that yet) since the unlimited data is no longer contracted.

At this point I am unsure what your goal is here. Multiple people have pointed out how, after the 8th, the unlimited data plan customer is strictly worse off in all scenarios. At best they will be paying $450 more per line per two years when getting a new device. For those unable or unwilling to pay full retail up front for phones moving forward, the Apple financing option is their best bet. It's still retail (plus $100 baked in for apple care) but is still the cheapest option (after full retail and opting out of apple care)

Obviously piss poor management.
And with this I am out. You've abciously shown us that you really don't know how Att has handled UDP in the past.

I'm borderline wondering if you're just hear to troll at this point. I'm not willing to believe that you don't understand what multiple people have laid down for you in different ways. But, if that's the case, there's literally no way to get you to understand, so for that I am sorry.

I think you need to understand what a troll is first, before call someone that.

I certainly do understand that. You're sitting here saying everyone here is misinformed. Not only that, everyone who has been able to renew their two year agreements were only able to do so because of "piss poor" management.

You're either utterly clueless about how ATT has handled their UDP contracts up until now (and through January 8th) or you're trolling. There are literally only those two options.

Here we go with this again. Lets all have the "What does Unlimited Data Really Mean?" discussion. No thanks. Been there, done that. Stop kicking cause that horse died years ago.
that sucks that you were forced into this discussion and even had to waste time posting a comment to let everyone know you were not going to take part in this.

It doesn't help that I'm trying to reply to multiple people, all with different situations.

Do you think the UDP will also just disappear? If it does I am going to cricket.
Probably not. I think that's what they're gearing up for but it won't happen overnight. This is just assumption, my gut, and watching UDP trends on other carriers leading me here. Obviously once you are out of contract there is nothing forcing a carrier to keep you on your data plan at the price they had been giving you. ATT also doesn't want s mass exodus.

This is about as clear as it gets. Unlimited people are getting taken for $450 every two years (and soon, $5/per month as well).
