This is obviously aimed at those who jailbreak and use apps like MyWi vice paying for internet access at their homes. Jailbreaking is not a crime but AT&T sure as hell doesn't have to like it.

Even if they payed for the tethering plan they would still do it. These companies just don't want you to use the unlimited data like it's intended to be used. As much as you want. They don't want to spend more money to upgrade their network so they control what their customers can use.

----------

Just download less :/ use free open wifi more. I am sorry but some people must really abuse their downloads to go over some caps.

How about get what you pay for.

How about don't be greedy you do not REQUIRE most of the media you download, you DESIRE it.

Important difference.

LOL People like you are the reason they do things like this. I download my apps on their network when i'm out. Most of the time is used for streaming netflix on my down time when I'm out in the field training. The fact of the matter is we pay for it so we should get it. Bet you get ripped off my a lot of companies.

Actually I download what i need via my ISP which is unlimited, and sync up before I head out, my cell data plan is 500mb per months which i never go over and I only use the 3G network to check Facebook or work Twitter, when in work I turn Cell Data off and use the works Wifi.

By managing the amount I use when out and about I ensure I am getting the most out of my iso deal, while not being greedy on the cellular data.

It's not a matter of being greedy with cell data. For many people, WiFi is not always an option.

If anyone is being greedy, it's the cell carriers. If it was strictly a matter of network congestion, they would be throttling EVERYONE who uses in excess... not just the smartphone users.

Amazingly enough though, they still offer an unlimited plan to non-smartphones... and don't throttle it no matter how much you use (I have topped 50GB).

So basically you could get a non-smartphone and tether it to your MB Air and be fine and dandy?

If so I agree that is wrong for the smart phone user.

To all them haters who missed an opportunity to get unlimited data plan at the time it was offered and now crying about users who didn't mind paying the highest dollar for the highest plan offered:
-I think I should be understanding and (maybe feel sorry for You) that You went with only what You could afford at that time. I DON'T !)))) Now You have to upgrade Your plan due to: modern technology(Netflix, Facebook, exc...) and that requires You to pay more. That sucks ( for You!). I have been using a ton of data over 3G network, and a matter of a fact, still do. Slowing down network for me still will require YOU to upgrade your plan if YOU want to do the same. Only You will have to pay $40-$50 for limited (5Gb). I understand that it unfair to everybody to pay more vs unlimited users. Tough $h!t! You should of thought about it when You tried to save $5 on Your next bill and downgraded(if that's the case). I'm not planning on switching back, so as (I'd assume) anybody who got grandfathered an awesome plan YOU can't have any more. Also You have to understand, that some months we use 500mb, and guess what - some months is 15-20Gb. I liked the OPTION of using as much as i desire!!! Stop crying, really. It's just funny to see all You jealous individuals trying to make it sound like such a bad deal. And Yes- there will ALWAYS be Top5% - You just wish you had an opportunity to get there, but wait - You will get a radulous charges on your bill for going over your LIMIT! ( something we Don't have to worry about) ;0) it's called investment at the right time into the right plan and Holding on to it. too bad You missed Your chance, maybe You'll try to get one when 5GS(or whatever will come next) come out))) stop hating-it will not change my usage nor it will make me change my plan to what-ever-crappy-rip-off plan You have)))
Respectfully,
Unlimited Data Plan User

Aren't you getting ripped off by the same company? Oh, i get it, you're aware you're getting ripped off so this makes you smarter?

I'll never understand people like you who complain about getting ripped off and then continue to pay your bill every month. Glutton for punishment? Switch carriers if you're getting ripped off, sounds logical, no?

I've been with AT&T for four years with unlimited data for $30 per month. Because I always had wifi my usage was around 300MB per month. I am getting ready to relocate and had my home Internet shut off as the place I am going already has Internet.

I did this on March 13, 2013.

Two days later on March 15, 2013, I received this text message from AT&T which stated:

ATT Free Msg: Your data usage has reached 3GB this month. Using more than 3GB in future billing cycles will result in reduced speeds. You can use Wi-Fi to help avoid reduced speeds. Visit www.att.com/datainfo or call 866-344-7584 for more info.

I went from 100MB to 3GB in TWO DAYS only watching a few netflix movies on my phone! My contract ends at the end of this month and I will be leaving AT&T.

I would like suggestions on where I can go that will have a higher throttling cap than 3GB per month.

Thanks.

P.S. my phone is NOT jail broken and I have NEVER tethered my phone to my computer.

I'm going to tmobile. They have a $70 dollar flat fee unlimited talk, text and data plan and they give up to the first 5GB at 4G speeds and will reduce the speed to 2G speeds after you hit the 5GB of data.

You can't beat it.

Getting rid of AT&T was the best thing I ever did....

However, Netflix movies will use up quite a bit of data. I'd guess 4 - 6 movies would easily chew through 3GB.

For what it's worth I hear they are more lax on your cap if you're using LTE though.

Sprint
Too bad their 3G speeds are about as fast as dial up

I guess t mobile throttling is better than AT&T throttling somehow

You can get the $70 prepaid and on T-Mobile and on that plan, they state that there is no throttling on that plan.

Surprisingly, I'm not being throttled anymore. I just checked my data, I'm at 6.5GB usage according to AT&T. However my LTE speeds are still over 30Mbps.

You deserve every single of those "thumb downs" and then more. Seriously. It costs them ****ing nothing and they're already screwing people over.

Can I have your plan if you haven't already canceled?

What city/state are you in? You are not the first to mention this, and I'm wondering if they are being lenient on uncongested nodes.

San Francisco Bay Area, California.

I'm at 9GB this month and no throttles. I didn't get throttled when I went to Boston either. I'm not sure what's going on here anymore.
