Yeah, that doesn't seem right... that's unfortunate. I haven't seen a hard throttle between San Diego to L.A. to Hollywood. AT&T has pretty good coverage in SoCal. I haven't seen a hard throttle since AT&T changed their throttling policy. I'm over 20 gigs a week and a half into my billing cycle... enjoying my 6+ more now than when I first bought it.

That's weird. You must be connected to a real congested cell site.
You live in a major US city?
Even when I was throttled email worked fine and speedtest worked and showed speeds of 0.5mbps
Videos still loaded with YouTube etc...
Something doesn't seem right with your claims.

I live in a rural area, west Louisiana. Not high on the list for upgrades for towers and services. Previously, my 3GS and 4S acted the same way my 6 plus does, just at 3 gb instead of 5 gb now that LTE is available. AT&T representative says the tower I access at work is overloaded and no upgrades are planned. I just watch my data daily so I can listen to Pandora during my commute, and stay away from videos. I turned off my wifi and ran a test. The result is below. My usage is currently 2.0 gb, billing date is 23rd. I agree something doesn't seem right.

Sounds like an issue with that particular tower.
You shouldn't get throttled at all with 2GB's of data.
Drive 5-10 minutes away and do another speed test.
Your experience is completely different than everyone elses with UD on AT&T since they stopped throttling.
I been hitting lots of data past 5GB's with no slowdowns at all on any location I had been so far.

I'll try some other areas tomorrow when I go out. I wasn't expecting that slow speed here especially this early in the billing cycle/usage.
Thanks for your advise and patience.

Hope it works out bud.
It sucks getting stuck with a bad tower like that at work.
You guys dont have wifi at work right?
Also maybe the buildings walls could cause the weak signal?
Doing a test outside in the parking lot gives you the same results or better?
I know at my work everyone gets barely one bar and if me or customers need to make a phone call we have to go near a window. Must be the thick brick walls or roof that's shielding the cell signals. Once I get out signal and connection is fine.

Same here it's weird even at the old hard throttling practice.

I agree something isn't right with his s claims.

I agree, something doesn't sound right.....He's probably not being throttled. It's sounds like he has something else going on. Even when AT&T use to "throttle", you should get a nice constant steady speed of .5 Mbps up and .5 mbps down when doing a speed test. If it times out, you have other issues going on. You should contact AT&T or the manufacturer of your phone to see about getting a replacement. If you follow these forums, and some of the forums on other websites, you will quickly see that you are the only one who has an AT&T unlimited data plan that is still being "throttled". For all of the rest of us unlimited data plan owners, it's almost like AT&T has completely cut out throttling altogether. (Even though they say they can if you're connected to a congested cell tower) Besides you, I have not seen one other person who has made a claim that they are being throttled since AT&T has changed their throttling policy months ago.... Any more information you could provide would be greatly appreciated and help us try to track down what your issue is.

If representative tells you like this, just politely ask to document her/his words and if you on 2-year plan.: 1. call retention, ask them to remove you from the plan, 2. open dispute ... and they have to remove from the plan.

I got a text when I hit 3.75GB that was a soft warning but nothing happened, and I ended up using 5.5GB that month. I normally use between 4.5GB and 5.5GB per month on average.

Planning on upgrading to a 6S Plus next month but ONLY if AT&T lets me keep my plan as is. Hopefully doing so won't be an issue.

If you are only running 4-6gb a month, why worry about unlimited? We dropped our unlimited last year (saved over $1000 and got a hotspot), and now have 5 phones and 20gb data (it was 10gb) for $175 a month. With rollover, we started this month at 31gb. So, as far as we are concerned we have unlimited.

I went out today and ran a test. It looks good, I was starting to wonder if my phone radio was the culprit.
When I go to work I will burn some data on videos and see what happens when 5 gb gets reached. Right now 2.2gb has been used this month.
Work doesn't have wifi, and I don't use public wifi for security.

Nostresshere, I stay on unlimited because so far it's cheaper, no overages, and the data usage on phones and internet seems to increase steadily. The 6plus seems to use a lot of data, more than the 3GS and 4s, so future phones will, in my opinion, use more data than the current phones. Unlimited may be my best bet long term. Monthly my bill runs $142-$144 on a two year contract with 2 iPhones. ATT wants me to go to 30gb for $190.
Here is the test results from this morning, and a previous test.

Thank all of you for your comments and patience.

I hit 5gb Sunday at work, which normally is in a bad tower coverage area. Right before I reached 5gb I ran a speed test, which read 57.7MB up and 10.9 down, 91ms. Which is faster than normal.
Then watched a YouTube video which put me over the 5gb, then ran another speed test, which read 4.4MB up and 17.2MB down, 87ms. Which is faster than I was used to. But I figured I was throttled.
About a minute later, I ran another speed test which read 53.9MB up, 14.3MB down, 94ms.

Monday I ran some more speed tests which read in the 24MB to 65MB range down, 1.8MB to 11.2MB range up. I'm not sure what has changed, but I'm glad to see the faster speeds. Maybe an upgrade took place.

So, I have to agree I am not being hard throttled.

Thanks again for your advice.

Has the newish policy changed their stance on hotspots? Anyone using their phone as a hotspot?

I got busted years ago using hotspot while jail-broken. I have a mifi from work, but would love another option as long as AT&T doesn't want to get up in my ish again and threaten to change my data plan.
