So it's $40 per month on top of monthly voice and data plan price for each subsidized phone a person gets?

NEXT is a rip off...

So I have a 2-line family plan. pricing as follows (from the bill)

mobile share value plan 10gb $100.00
mobile share value smartphone 4g ltw $40.00
discount for mobile share value savings -$25.00
national account discount (wells fargo employee) -$28.00
mobile share value smartphone 4g ltw $40.00
discount for mobile share value savings -$25.00

total bill before taxes is $102.00 (on average its between $110-115/month)

The samsung galaxy s5 was on sale at Best Buy for $99.99. Normally halfway through your 2-year agreement you are eligible for an upgrade. So $99.99 + a one time $18 upgrade fee on your first bill with a new 2-year commitment.

So can someone PLEASE explain to me, how $99.99 (+tax) + $18 is more expensive than $32 x 20 months with AT&T Next????

I have not understood that math yet... maybe its this new teaching standard everyone is switching to that makes absolutely no sense...

At&t next rip off

so in other words,

my current phone is a Samsung Galaxy S3, which I upgraded to from a Blackberry Torch, midway through my 2 year contract.

The S3 was on sale at Walmart for $9.99 online. I didn't purchase it right away but the following day when I went to buy it, it was $39.99 (new sale for the week). Anyways, I paid the $39.99 + tax. And on the first bill following the purchase, I paid a $18 upgrade fee... THATS IT!

Through AT&T's Next, this would have easily been about $15/month for 18-24 months... Costing me over $270...

How is that beneficial to me?????

You lose the $25 discount per line signed to a new 2-year contract. Also, the upgrade fee is now $40, not $18. Also, it's not really halfway anymore. AT&T has gotten pretty strict when it comes to upgrades. Just a few months prior to the 5s' release, they made the upgrade right at 24 months. Now, I believe they've decreased it back to 20 months.

2-year contract
$99.99 + $25*24 + $40 = $740 (upgrade after 24 months/2 years)
$99.99 + $25*20 + $40 = $640 (upgrade after 20 months)

NEXT
$32*20 = $640

AT&T Upgrade Eligibility Without AT&T Next?

You lose the $25 discount per line. It's not complicated. No new teaching standards.

I wish people would wake up and quote the TOTAL price. So many of these "deals" or pricing schemes leave out what the monthly cost for the service is. Some of you folks think you are getting a great deal, but paying too much for service.

I have 4 iphones, 10gb data across them, plus tether to ipads and notebook, all for $160 per month. What are you paying?

FYI... I checked mine on apple.com last week and it's shows all options, 2 year on contract and Next.

As of last week my upgrade was up on September 22. I was bummed at the time because the rumor is the iPhone 6 will be out on the 19th.

I checked today and now it says NOW for my 2 year contract. So I think AT&T is bumping those that are close up earlier for iPhone 6.

I believe someone mentioned that in the past and/or often AT&T allows upgrades at the beginning of the month that the actual contract/upgrade date falls in.
