AT&T - waiting in line at retail locations?

I plan on getting a 6+ model... And I'm skeptical that AT&T Store would have any available. I plan on going to the Apple Store.. And if I'm not unable to get one.. at least I'll be put into the system for perhaps the next shipment.
I don't know AT&T Store procedure if there are no 6+ models available...
Smallish town here - Population about 180,000 - in years past, lines started forming at our AT&T corporate store at about 4am for an 8am (early) opening.
