So I get my new iPhone sent to the office, cool. It arrives around 11:30 and I plug it in. Corporate blocks access to the iTunes store. Ok, so I'll just go down the street to the AT&T store. I'm sure they'll activate it for me.

NOPE.

The guy on the floor who I spoke to was very cool, good guy. But he said he had to ask the manager. Manager says they will not activate any new iPhones until tomorrow!! What losers. Only At&T would deny their customers activation of phones on their own network.

Just thought I'd pass along another reason AT&T blows. Peace.

Didn't your iPhone come with activation instructions? There are also activation instructions in your confirmation email, which include an 866 AT&T number. Don't pay attention to a what a local manager says.

The manager blows. As you found out, there's more to iPhone4 activation than connecting to iTunes. Read your emails or the paperwork that came with your iPhone4.

Good luck

Call 1-866-499-8008 Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m. Eastern Time or Saturday from 11:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m. Eastern Time to activate your phone/device. You may be asked for any of the following information:

* Wireless Phone Number
* AT&T Premier Order Number
* 15 digit IMEI number
* 20-21 digit SIM card number

My iPhone shipped from Apple. Just the shipping label taped in a pouch with the receipt and inside is the iPhone box. No activation instructions in the box. Everything I've read just say connect to iTunes.

I bet Apple won't activate for you early either. Another reason why Apple blows?

Neither Apple nor AT&T are doing early release at the store.

The solution is obvious: go home and activate there.

I didn't have time to travel to my local Apple store; I'm sure they would let me activate it.

22 minutes and counting on hold...

AT&T rep told me I had to go through iTunes and they couldn't activate the phone for me...

AT&FAIL

I used this. Rebooted my iPhone and it worked.

Did it still tell you that you have to plug into iTunes? I just activated online and it said that it should be activated within 15 minutes but could take up to as much time as 4 hours. I still see the connect to iTunes sign and that's all. Does this mean I'm not activated yet or am I going to still have to connect to iTunes even after its activated?

ugh, I guess I'm waiting til tonight.

had "no service" after activating through itunes. i went ahead and allowed the phone to sync over itunes load all music ect. took about 30 min... once it was done, still no service, i rebooted the phone, and it picked up service.

i will say, im getting a few less bars at home than my 3GS, still digging it though...

Exactly what I did, except I hooked it to iTunes, used that site, loaded everything on it then rebooted it and it worked.

I called 1-800-331-0500 and spoke to a customer care rep. She was brilliant and realized that my old sim card number or ICCID was still being used by the server. She changed it to my new ICCID found in Settings>>General>>About and it worked like a charm after I restarted my iPhone 4!
