I really don't like being taken advantage of.

The reasons for jailbreaking stay intact with each new iOS version and new handset. Unlimited data will be staying on my account, and I'll cop a new iPhone when it's jailbroken. My 4S, which is under warranty another year and has been replaced a week ago on a defect, is all good for now....

Looking forward to getting off their crummy network when the new iPhone with LTE becomes available (on Verizon, Sprint or even T-Mobile). I will never - ever subscribe to AT&T ever again.

I work for AT&T but this is just my personal opinion, if you think that you can find better value with Sprint, I honestly wish you the best of luck. Sprint speeds and coverage are inferior to AT&Ts but have at it.

Radio spectrum is not like fiber, it is a very finite resource. I personally wish it was cheaper but I understand why things are the way that they are. AT&T is a good value in the market place. If it were so bad as some people make it out to people everyone would have jumped ship already.

Honestly, I haven't really researched Sprint in my area lately. So I'm not sure. Like I said, this isn't about quality of service, this is about fairness.

I take issue with your 'finite resource' argument. AT&T is already doing bandwidth capping. What kind of data making up those bits and bytes is irrelevant. If there are considerations for uploading on cellular, I can understand AT&T's hesitation, but then they should specify individual upload & download caps like a normal home network. Charging for individual services is an attempt by AT&T to act like a content vendor instead of a utility service. And that's something as a customer that I won't accept.

What a crappy move by AT&T. They must reallllly hate users (like myself) with unlimited data plans. It doesn't surprise me that they'd stoop this low just to have some of us switch.

They're a bunch of clowns and I don't think I'll be with them much longer.

That's the idea. They want to get rid of unlimited users who took the advantage of their competitive $30/month unlimited data plan back when it was available. No offense, but if you have unlimited data and are using it a lot, you are slowing us all down.

I was so pissed when I read that. I was gonna write a bunch of **** on here but thank god i got distracted lol. But yeah ***** You at&t. once my contracts up you can kiss my ass goodbye.

The worst part about this to me is that AT&T thinks they're doing us a favor by offering FaceTime over cellular for no charge on the new plans. They'll probably advertise it as a feature. Simple fact is, we're smarter than that. We know that data is data and it shouldn't matter how it's used.

Guess what AT&T? Skype is free over cellular and there's nothing you can do about it.

1. I use Verizon so I'm ok.

2. Even if I was on AT&T, I have an iphone 4 and apparently to Apple's standards its not capable of facetime over cellular

Every time apple comes out with a new feature, AT&T goes and screws it up. MMS... You have to wait. Teathering... You have to wait, and give us more money. Music match... you are using too much unlimited data, throttled. FaceTime... Not on our network, unless you get a shared plan, which means you will most likely use up your data allotment twice as fast because you are probably going to face time your other phone. Why can't AT&T just sell us Internet and voice and stop meddling with how I use it. They are stifling creativity and innovation. If we just had some government regulation on these telcos, forcing them to create a more compettitive environment, things would be so much better.

I've been thinking of dumping ATT for their crappy service when the new iPhone came out... BUT.....

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't ATT the only company that'll allow you to use your data AND voice at the same time? For example, use safari while on a call.... ???

Lately I've been using Tango for video over 3g (4G on the 4s, he said laughingly). Anyway, it's working pretty good for video and I like that you can swap you and the other party between PIP and full screen. Can't do that with Facetime. Why is that important? Because most of my video calls are for showing something to someone else and having my video in full screen helps me make sure I am framing the shot correctly.

Long story short, I'm grandfathered on unlimited data and so Tango or Skype are my Facetime alternatives.

Before anyone complains, how much do you actually use FaceTime? I would be up in arms, but I honest don't use this feature at all.

Whether we use Facetime or not is irrelevant. It's about AT&T picking and choosing what you can do with your data. First Facetime then what next?

This. What AT&T is doing is an end-run around Net Neutrality. Nobody should stand for this. This is a test case for AT&T to see how much they can monetize iOS's features. If no one complains about Facetime, we will probably see video or Siri usage itemized.

I've been with AT&T since the first iPhone, but unless AT&T backs off from this I will be switching. Probably to Sprint, who seem to have a more egalitarian view of content transmitting over their network. And I say this as someone who doesn't even use Facetime. It's the principle of the thing.

I agree with all of the above. I have used Facetime all of 5 times since it was introduced. It is the principle of the matter. at&t is setting a precedent with this move. Give these telecoms 18 months and you'll have a Facebook fee, Youtube fee, etc.

Verizon is just as much as a nickel and dimer, albeit a but less restrictive with the BS moves (they offer tethering on the iPad, at&t is still "working with Apple" on that). Time to find me a grandfathered VZW data plan and buy unlocked phones.

This is officially the straw that broke the camel's back. Bye AT&T! But wait, there's more! Not only am I leaving you, but I'll be actively rooting against you. I'm going to do my best to pull all my family, friends, colleagues, and clients away from your crappy service. It's been a mediocre to bad 8 years since I signed up for Cingular—and now it's time to head for greener pastures! Here's to your bankruptcy! Cheers!

Furthermore I smell a net-neutrality lawsuit in here somewhere…I hope the future turns out better than this nightmare we seem to be heading into! Here's to hoping by 2020 we can just pay a flat fee for unlimited dumb wireless pipes. No restrictions. Unfortunately I see Google heading in that direction—but the catch is they get to sniff all your traffic to target ads for you! Yikes. They're trialing something similar for wired lines in my hometown of KC. The web needs to stay open and accessible to all services. It should all be raw data as far as the provider is concerned! Who cares where it comes from? And what gives anyone the right to track what I do online?

LAME.

i laugh when people post they will be dumping thier provider and going with sprint. go ahead and do that. you will enjoy those dialup speeds for sure.

Why would you do such a thing? Is it saving you money?

I'm seriously considering switching to the plan as well. I currently have 3 iPhones on my contract 2 with unlimited data, I typically use 2-5gb of data, the past 3 months I'm throttled after 3gb and it's horribly unusable, so what's the point of having unlimited when I have to watch how much data I use so I don't go over 3gb?

I'd switch to Sprint but my work phone from sprint cant even stream music off it's terribly slow network. With the shared plan I can get more then enough data and add two of my iPads to save on those plans per month. So, yes it does save me money. It all comes down to how much data your going to use and how many devices you have.

Just because you have an iPhone or smartphone and the shared data plan doesn't make sense for 1 or 2 phones doesn't mean a person with 3-6 devices and only 1 or 2 data hogs can save money.

Sorry if I seem like an ass, but I've been reading comments on this plan for a while now, and almost everyone i read people are bashing the plans for not saving money and costing more. Or saying to switch to sprint for true unlimited, even though the majority of sprints network is extremely slow.

If you get a 2GB data plan, why can't you be allowed to use 2GB of data however the heck you want? Is 2GB of data using FaceTime different from 2GB of downloading music and apps?

My family will be switching to a shared plan. We have 4 phones and 3 iPads. It's not so much the savings (looks like it will be $10/ month more - but that depends on my son's employee discount, AT&T owns the company he works for).

It's the fact that the data on the phones goes pretty much unused each month but the iPads always seem short so it's a good deal for us.

As to FaceTime on 3G, my husband works overseas. Many times his wifi is not really good so we switch to Skype and works just fine. It will be interesting to see but I have a feeling that FaceTime takes more data than Skype. The only drawback to Skype is that the app must be open at the time of the call. And if you run low on memory the iPad 'jettisons' the app and you don't know if you are still signed in or not.

Don't say that please! Conservatives will accuse you of being a socialist even though they don't understand what that is.

For those that are threatening to leave AT&T, where are you going? Several others have posted here that Sprint's data transfer speeds are very slow. And, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that Verizon's new shared data plans are priced about the same as AT&T's (maybe even worse?).

I've been with Sprint since my first cellphone and I think I'm better off with them than this money-hungry company. The new iPhone will be my first iPhone and I think I'll love everything being unlimited. Sprint's network is slower, but maybe their 4G will resolve that.
