AT&T's HSPA+ Network with the iPhone 4S is awesome!!!! 9.6 Mbps+!!!

Why am i not getting these speeds on my 4S? the AT&T Coverage Maps says i am in the "4g" area, yet speedtest.net only results in 2.80Mbps down and 1.06Mbps up. Granted it is faster than my 4 which got 1.71Mbps down and 1.06Mbps up, but would have though i would see at least 4Mbps with HSPA+

My guess is that the more people on, the slower it is?

Same thing for me. I have unlimited data and I want to abuse it!

could be an area that the 4G is LTE, not HSPA+

If the map shows dark blue, then it states that it's an HSPA+ area with backhaul. It should work.

So far, AT&T only has 5 cities with LTE. I don't think that anyone is going to confuse those on a coverage map.

Yeah, I have seen a considerable bump in speed here in Phoenix. On my 3GS I got lucky if I broke 1mbps down and 500k up but right now I am averaging around 4mbps down and 1.5 up. Highest I have tested was 8 down and 2 up.

Not too shabby.

LA and OC

Still testing but Torrance, CA showed 2.8 DL and 800 UL which is roughly double what it was with the 4 so I am happy. It's not LTE verizon but again double than before. I'll have an irvine report later

Could be any number of things. Big one being chances are you do not have the "enhanced back haul" to your area yet. The other is the speed test server you are testing off of max speed is not high enough.
I can test my land line and it speed on closest server maxes out at around 4 MBits. But if I choose another one in say Dallas I can hit around 15 MBits which is closer to the speed I should be getting.

DL 6.62Mbps, UP 1.68Mbp in westchester ny. I never seen it this good... so glad i have unlimited data

Must be nice, I'm still stuck at 1.5MB here in Cincinnati with upload at 50k

1.09 here in Cincinnati.

AT&T is garbage here locally because they let Cincinnati Bell Wireless -- a huge local carrier -- use their network and clog up the towers.

They need to add a ton of capacity, especially downtown, but there's no sign they're ever going to do it. On days where there are events (especially sporting events like the Reds, Bengals or Bearcats football) the network becomes outright unusable.

If it weren't for being grandfathered into unlimited data, I'd never have re-upped with them.

Haven't seen anything faster then 1 meg here in San Diego area, I compared my boyfriends new 4S with my 4 and there was little notable difference in download or upload speeds with speedtest.net.

I also tried the real world test of launching various data intensive apps, and his phone was only about half a second faster then mine on most tests (i.e. launching a Youtube video).

Meh... Hardly worth the upgrade... except for maybe the camera... damn them on that camera anyway.

I'm getting between 6.5-9.5 in Columbus, OH.

I'm getting crap in Columbus, Ohio.

Just because there was no difference at that exact location at that one point in time does not mean there is no benefit. As you can see, many users are getting better speeds in different areas. In a different part of SD, you might see 2x the speed on the 4S.

Same problem here, definitely in dark blue HSPA+ zones here in South Denver, but I can see NO difference in Ping, Up or Down speed on 4S vs 4. (1-2 down, 1 up, 100-200 ping) Have both active and testing side by side at various locations. Really annoyed by this, wish I knew for sure it wasn't some AT&T account setting. My account says "Data Unlimited for iPhone4S" so it would seem that should work.
