Not asking to argue, but how much does Espn cost per subscriber? And fox sports, nfl network? All the regional sports networks? I’m sure ESPN is the most expensive, would you say $5 per subscriber? I’m genuinely interested.

ESPN is estimated to cost $8.37 per month in 2018, an increase of 39%. So probably safe to assume that the service provider is making around $2 per subscriber, per month, just for ESPN.

I have trouble making these streaming services make financial sense.

We had Comcast cable and internet. We dropped cable and went internet only. We picked up PlayStation Vue for 39 bucks a month.

Then promptly blew threw our data cap when watching TV as normal in addition to regular internet use.

Went back to cable.

How does this work? I wanted to try the iOS app and cannot even login. It makes you login for an account never created, try to reset since there’s no create option, it takes to the direct tv account change that doesn’t work either. It doesn’t accept my att info nor direct tv info. Pretty pointless.

Data cap on a wired broadband? Why in the world would your ISP need to have a data cap?

Don’t other Comcast users have data caps?

I could switch to DirecTV or RCN I believe, but neither can beat the speeds I get with Comcast, which are up to 150 down.

Additionally, when you add up PS Vue, Netflix 4K and Amazon Prime plus broadband alone (which is a helluva lot of more expensive once “unbundled” from cable), the per month cost savings to “cut the cord” is like $10.00. And the $10.00 difference represents the digital cable box.

Bottom line—if your ISP has data caps, no matter how generous you think they are, running on streaming is likely not a cost saver.

And they exclude grandfathered unlimited plans, that's the way to treat your long time customers. :(
T-Mobile, a much more giving company tha ATT, doesn’t include new promotions in their plans that are only a few years old. Why would you expect to get new services from a 10 year old plan?

I have the “Unlimited Choice” plan (the cheaper of the two just-expired plans). I get free HBO (that’s gone in the cheaper &More plan) and I can watch all those channels and more with my discounted DTVN account. Plus it’s $5 more for two phones. No thanks.
Umm I have the more expensive unlimited plan, I think for me is cheaper? IDK how HBO would work though? if its just live inside the AT&T app only then I might not change

I have the cheaper unlimited plan. It's $180 for 4 lines. The new plan says it would be $160 and all i would lose is HBO. I think i might switch to the new plan.

EDIT: Nevermind, the new plans don't have the directvnow discount. Makes no sense for me then. We have two directvnow account with discount of $15 each. Plus free HBO. Makes no sense to switch.

EDIT 2: So apparently the directvnow discount is still there and the plan is $20 less. Maybe it does make sense. Ill have to call them.

Same here, and many App Store reviews are saying the same thing. I went through 10 minutes of password resetting and it did nothing. Ugh.

Here's an odd thing, if I look at my 3 line Unlimited Plus Enhanced under "change plan" it says I'm paying $180 and that the new plan would be $170.

But on my plan they are leaving off the $10 multi line discount on purpose, that makes them both $170 each.

So be careful anyone changing to save $10, because the price on the top tier is actually the same.

I wouldn't mind changing because I really don't care about the HBO, but I'm not sure if you pick another network under new plan if it also applies to your DirecTV account or only online.

Maybe it’s just me, but it seems bizarre to have to watch a broadcast of prerecorded content at a specific time. It’s even more so to do it on an infrastructure that should easily you to watch whenever you want. I don’t want to WatchTV, I want to stream it.

Now this is just a humor post, but I had to chime in. You know, previous generations; that's pretty much all that existed - watching a pre-recorded broadcast at a specific time. Somehow, they either caught it or missed it and everyone lived. :p

So my plan breakdown current vs new.
I have 10 lines:
Unlimited Plus Enhanced:

The main differences I see are;
15GB of Data of laptop tethered usage on the new plan
10GB of Data of laptop tethered usage on the old plan
You get HBO for free on the old plan
You get to choose HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, Starz, TMC on the new plan

WatchTV seems to be the only 'NEW NEW' thing on the new plan.

Unlimited Plus Enhanced for 10 lines $315 per month
Unlimited and More and Premium for 10 lines $400 per month

so an extra $85 for WatchTV and 5GB of tethered data usage per month

for me: Not even remotely worth changing to U&M&P plan
