I noticed my iPhone X running dog-slow and the 5GE icon showing up about the same time. I'm on 12.2. I sat side by side with my wife's iPhone 6 and ran Okla's Speedtest. The iPhone 6 with LTE got 12 down and 3 up. 5GE got 7 down and less than 1 (.62) up.

Is it an issue with iPhone X or 12.2 or 5GE??

your phone is not capable of taking advantage of the enhancements ATT has claimed for its so-called 5GE.
specifically the iPhone X doesnt have 4x4 mimo capability.

the 5GE icon shows that is receiving a 5GE signal, but your device is not able to take advantage of the ATT enhancements of its "5GE" network
your iPhone X has a 2x2 mimo capability.

as far as why a 3rd party app would report any difference between an X and a 6 i dont understand, as neither device can take advantage of any of the improvements ATT markets for its "5GE" network.
unless its related to possible frequencies that are used for ATT's "5GE" that might not be available in either device.

Yea at this point X and below, if you see 5Ge it’s basically just an indicator that the area you are in has 4x4 capability, but has nothing to do with whether you will see better speeds. Maybe next gen iPhones it will matter, but for now nope.

5Ge is three technologies... 256QAM, 4x4 MIMO, and 4CA. The iPhone X/8 can do 2 of the 3. iPhone 7's can do 3CA, 6s can do 2CA (Up to 300 Mbps) and the iPhone 6 can do 2CA (Up to 150 Mbps). There have been significant improvements every generation. Most people are likely to benefit from 4CA and 256QAM over 4x4 MIMO anyway.

To give an example of the speeds this is capable of, I'm on an Xs with 5Ge service and am getting 93.2 Mbps down and 16.1 Mbps up.
