Hey folks.

So I've just upgraded to the retina 2015 coming from a 2012 with 1650x1080 native and I'm somewhat confused.

For some reason I thought retina would give me more real estate from the get go but now I see the optimized resoluton is still 1440x900.

I tried scaling the resolution but I'm not sure, something is odd. I don't have my old mac to compare but I think the native 1650x1090 was better than the retina on the same setting.

Now I feel like the screen was not an upgrade for me :(

In which resolutions do you guys usually go for? 1440x900 feels cramped after so much time with 1650x1080, I really need the space.

What OS are you running? 1680 x 1050 is default in Sierra on my 15". Looks great.

I thought native is 2880x1800 and the OS itself enlarged text/images to make it appear as the resolution was different??? Is it a 15-inch MBPr?

Under the Display tab in Settings, do you have "Default for Display" checked? (it sounds like you already played with this - but if you click "more space", I believe that gives you more viewing area?)

I use the default. I will take sharper text and graphics over more pixels

And you may be right about your MBP being as nice. According to Apple,

"scaled resolutions do not offer the same visual quality as the Retina setting. Scaled resolutions may also impact graphics performance depending on which applications you are using."

I use the 1280 X 800 scaling on my 13" MBP. I'm not one for needing a lot screen real estate, typically just have a Safari window open, and maybe a video playing picture-in-picture. Either that or Pages open for word processing, or I watch video full-screen which doesn't get affected by the scaling I use. As I get older I'm more inclined to take larger text over more real estate, LOL

I use 2880x1800 for everything except World of Warcraft. For that I use 1440x900 because everything was so small, and I couldn't read any text. In looking at the supported resolutions, 1440x900 doesn't even show up, so I'm not sure how that's working but it is. I think I'll try 1680x1050 next time.
