Ok thought so.

Do you think I could use the white connector from my original ATI fan and stick that on the 7V Accelero cable and then connect it directly to my ATI card? Would this then control the fan speed accordingly?

See my photos above.

How noisy is it running at 12V ? Would this stop the overheating too?

Thanks,
Rob

I never used the Accelero Twin Turbo because my 4870 is indeed quiet, so I can't say how loud it is with 12V.

As gugucom said, the 3780 is capable of regulating the fan speed with only 2 wires.
Apparently that works with PWM technology, so there is no need for a third or forth cable to adapt the fan speeds.

My way of solving your problem would be the following.

Remove the white connector of the stock cooler and connect it to the 4 to 2 pin adapter that came with the Accelero.
Just make sure you don't change the polarity. Black to black, yellow to red.

ok thanks. Going to try the 12V to start with just in case its quiet. Then I'll take a look at chopping the cables :)

If I do decide to connect my stock plug does it matter if I connect to the 12V part or the connector or the 7V?
