Just bit the bullet and got a Mac 4870 but I have a problem

I installed the card and my 2006 MacPro sees the card and it is running my two displays nicely. The problem that I have is that my Mouse has become 'sticky'. scrolling across the screen it sticks every few hundred pixels you move and then jumps.

I never had this problem with the radeon 1900XT that was in there and I am running SL10.6.1, the mouse is a Logitech MX revolution and has the latest LCC software installed.

Has anyone else had any problems of this kind?

Cheers

I don't have 2 monitors hooked up, but I don't have this jerky mouse problem. Sorry. I'm using an Apple Mighty Mouse.

The 4870 mouse flicker issue is quite known, you have two options; change display or change graphic card.

there's alot about it on the apple discussion board

Is it a problem that they have acknowledged? Is it SL specific or does it happen in Leopard as well?

I am loath to ditch the 4870 as it is lovely and quiet in comparison to my old 1900xt which had bearings going in the fan.

I could see myself holding out if there is the prospect of a driver update to fix it.

I have a 2006 Mac Pro with the 4870 Mac edition. I'm running two monitors - the 30" cinema display and 20" display. I have no laggy or flickering mouse.

Does anyone know if apple have acknowledged this issue and if there is likely to be a resolution to it?

Is the only guaranteed way to avoid this issue to get an ACD? Are there other manufacturers whose displays are okay? I have a Phillips 22" and a Fuji 24" hooked up to my MacPro at the moment and dont want to replace them unless I have to.

power from motherboard

QUOTE "Yeah I've got two 4870s in my 2.66GHz 2006 Mac Pro. They're flashed PC cards though (luckily, since Apple's 4870 doesn't support Crossfire). They're both 1GB XFX 4870 cards with the flashed EFI/XFX XXX BIOS from this tutorial. I'm using two PCIe splitters to split the power on the motherboard into two. I do have a power lead coming from the optical drives that I ran down with my 3870s before but I've heard that the power from there isn't as stable."

--------

In regards to the power splitters you mentioned. Just put a 4870 in my 07 2x3.0Ghz mac pro 16 gig ram. 10.5.7 and it seems to be working great. I do hate the mini display port. Why the heck would I want that technology on a tower? seriously... (we know why they did it) and the more I look at what apple does the more they make me hate them...

My question is... Now that I have taken up the two power outputs on my motherboard. When I get another card (redrocket) that requires power would I just get some splitters like you did and all is well? Any downside to splitting the power (strain on power outputs)???

Thanks for the help.
Any suggestions on what to search for in power splitter...

Wow and I was worried about my 2006 2.66 powersupply with a NVIDIA 7300 GT and adding a 3970 ;)
