Having trouble getting a 9700 or even a 9600 for my G4 1.25 MDD. So my quetsion is can I use a 9800? Would it be better than a 9700 anyway?

    Thx in advance

If you're wanting to use a ADC screen with it, the ultra rare 9700 Pro is the best for that. There isn't any G4 compatible ADC 9600/9800 card.

The GeForce 4 Ti 4600 is a little easier to find, and isn't much slower. (If you want an ADC card.)

If ADC output is not needed, you can use any of the many flashed 9800pros around or flash one matching the reference design yourself.

in case of performance there is not much of a difference between 9800 and 9700. But 9800 are little faster, easier to find and shouldn't cost any more.

    Welcome to the forums, flyproductions!

I'd like to add that there is a compatibility list at themacelite, were you can look which 9800 "PC"-Cards are good to flash (as far as you do not just look for the reference design). Some have different Memory and - I guess - two models are quieter, because they have a heat regulated fan (but they seem rare).

Did you tell us in the other thread, whether you also plan to use it in OS 9? I do not remember atm. The 9800 works in OS 9 but 3D Hardware acceleration is not supported and so some games have problems (Had that experience with a flashed 9200. There are 3D drivers for 7000/8500/9000/9200, but, if the card is a flashed card it won't work, as I was told. For the 9000 there is a guide on how to solder something, so that 3D acceleration for flashed cards from the 8500/9000 range are supported. For the 9800, though, ATI didn't make 3D drivers for OS9, so it won't work for some OS9 games, anyway (even, if there was to solder something).

well Ive decided to get an 8500 for my older os9 stuff with an adc which I did. Now all I need is a card for osx that does core. So I am looking for a 9700 but have had no luck at all. I have a Geforce 4600 but would rather am ati.
