Sorry to bust your rant, but the HD 5830 isn't a pro part, as gamers aren't pros. If you wanted a pro GPU, Apple would have to put in a Quadro or something outrageously expensive.

As a game developer I have to say, what a load of crap you just said!

Well look in korea, there are pro gamers :p although I don't think any of them play on a mac or on a laptop.

I just wanted to say i really do hope apple goes with an ati 5 series video card eespecially the 5830. Also all the 5 series cards support multiple external displays from a note book! Finally!

A professional is a member of a vocation founded upon specialised educational training.
The word professional traditionally means a person who has obtained a degree in a professional field.

Since when do you need a degree, or special educational training to play games?

The term professional is used more generally to denote a white collar working person, or a person who performs commercially in a field typically reserved for hobbyists or amateurs.

Yes, there are a VERY SMALL number of "professional gamers" who manage to make money out of gaming competitions. But almost everyone else in the world is not. Game developing is a completely different pot of sardines, as clearly you need education and training in order to make games. And as game development is primarily coding with a bit of model creation, a powerful graphics card is not strictly necessary, and the modelling parts would be better done using a proper professional GPU made for CAD apps (like a Quadro or FireGL) anyway.

Anybody know the price of the 5830? If it's significantly higher than the 9600m, then it's probably not going to be used.
