I don't play games. Would this card give a noticeable speed improvement vs the slow stock Geforce GT 120? Apple claims this card is 5 times faster.
I use Photoshop and do a lot of video-editing.

What apps do you use for video encoding? If it's intensive enough, then a faster GPU will definitely help but it won't speed up iMovie ;)

Night/day difference in even regular tasks... I replaced my GT 120 with the 5770, even moving windows around is nicer... Major speed improvement. Get it.

I also have the QuadCore Nehalem. Could you post the xBench results?
TIA

Never benchmarked it... Just know that it is MUCH faster than the GT 120... I also had the GTX 285 and for what I did, I didn't notice anything less going down to the 5770. Just get it, you'll love it!

My GT120 is virtually silent.. can't hear it at all.. whereas my 5870 card (2010 Mac Pro) is probably the loudest piece of hardware in there :(

Is it normal that the GT120 is so crap that it can't even display the stack opening in a grid animation smoothly?

The GT120 can play games pretty well at 1920x1200 even with some AA and AF.

It's just **** coding from Apple on the animations front, the 4870 does lag abit too (Time-machine animation for example).

It's the other way round in my system. The GT120 definitely is way louder than the 4870, but it might have a bad fan, I'm not sure.
