Starting today, the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA)'s Breeze Card can be added to the Apple Wallet app, allowing commuters in the Atlanta, Georgia area to tap an iPhone or Apple Watch to pay their fare at train stations and on buses.

To add the Breeze Card to Apple Wallet, open the app and tap on the plus sign in the top-right corner. Next, tap on Transit Card and scroll down and select the Breeze Card. Then, follow the on-screen steps to complete the setup process.

Funds can be added to the Breeze Card directly in Apple Wallet, with both pay-per-ride and discounted passes for multiple rides available.

Express Mode allows commuters to simply hold their iPhone or Apple Watch near a payment reader to pay for their ride, without needing to unlock or wake the device. This mode even works for up to five hours after an iPhone runs out of battery. Express Transit can be enabled per card in the Settings app under Wallet & Apple Pay.

Breeze Card has been available in the Google Wallet and Samsung Wallet apps since earlier this month, but Apple Wallet support was just added now.

You may be picturing a huge mass transit system in Atlanta. It is not. A subway that basically is only good for going to the airport. Buses that mostly travel main roads with complex time-consuming connections. When we moved from Atlanta to Philly and locals would complain about their robust Septa system with multiple kinds of trains, many buses, and trams, I would roll my eyes hard at them.

I don’t understand how this is more convenient than just using the card.

You don't have to carry said card. The number of Breeze cards I have bought over the years because I use Marta at most 1x/year.

Thank you Fifa for bringing Marta to the year 2026. New trains that will surely be put back into storage after the world cup.

edit: surprised to see this work so seamlessly. Easily added and loaded $5 as a test.

I never had the card, since I never used MARTA, but it was trivial for me to add it to my phone just now. That and with Digital ID, GA Drivers License, seems that Georgia is doing quite well in the whole Apple Wallet scene. Now I can use MARTA without even leaving my couch to get a card to begin with.

I just wish digital ID was more useful. The only place you can really use it would be the airport, but you really don't need it there because airlines like Delta bake it into your ticket. I'm ready to go out and fully leave my wallet at home (I don't need anyone to explain getting pulled over with digital IDs).

You don’t even need to fool with a Breeze card now that you can just tap a credit/debit card.
