Looks like the store update at midnight enabled all the movies with the Atmos logo. Every single one I have tried now plays back in Atmos!
It's strange that the iTunes Store does not have any mention of Dolby Atmos! There are 4K banners, promotions on the home page and mentions of Apple TV 4K but no mention as yet of Atmos!
True! Flatpanels is listing all of the iTunes films with Atmos and there's over 200 at present!!!!!! Very impressive! Will 2019 be the year of the Atmos SoundbarYeah, you think they would be promoting it. Maybe they want to wait a week or two to make sure there aren’t any major issues with the public release.

So, I've got a Sony projector which only supports 1080p but I have an AV surround system which supports Dolby Atmos (it would also support HDR and Dolby Vision passthrough) will the ATV allow me to listen to the audio in Atmos but play the content in 1080p. Currently I'm not getting the Atmos option it's just setting everything to the 1080p resolution.
Any advice is really appreciated.

Theoritically yes, I have a similiar setup with a 1080p projector and an Atmos capable receiver. If you are on apple tv 4k and TVOS12 you will have the enable atmos option under audio options. My problem is my receiver is not taking the ATV4K audio stream with Atmos enabled but the video plays fine at 1080p.
I have Gravity will give that a try tonight but Im pretty sure its a problem with the sound stream that my receiver wont decode. When I enable Atmos the video starts but no audio its playing a 1080p file with Atmos sound.Do either of you own the movie Gravity? It’s HD with Atmos. Curious if that would work for you.
Tried that, also moved it to another input I have had HDMI finicky issues but those steps have always resolved them.this may sound silly, but, try disconnecting your HDMI cables and reconnecting...when you connect each device has EDID information that tells other devices what it is capable of, when doing a software/firmware update HDMI can be finicky and might not update EDID very well.
I think that is the question, I have completely reread the manual and scoured the interweb but I have no idea.ALSO: tvOS 12 decodes DD+ Atmos stream, mixes system sounds, then outputs LPCM uncompressed w/Dolby MAP2.0 metadata for Atmos, this is different from most other devices out there. I assume any audio device that can decode Atmos is able to do so with LPCM / Dolby MAP2.0, but you may need to check your device manual and/or settings?

Yes directly connected from ATV4k to AVR, HDMI out to projector from AVR.I assume you are connecting your ATV 4K directly to your AVR?
Gravity in Atmos worked for me in the beta so I assume it still works.Do either of you own the movie Gravity? It’s HD with Atmos. Curious if that would work for you.

On the positive side, Atmos works, if I AirPlay the clip from Videos app on iOS to aTV 4K.Is your ATV audio output set to HDMI If not, and set to your AVR, you will be airplaying to the AVR, which will not pass Atmos.
