Carrier (ATT) Adding line at Apple Store

Does any one have any success/failure stories with the ability to ADD an AT&T next line at the Apple store. I'm not looking to upgrade my current line but add one. I'm reading conflicting reports on the web.

Are you porting in that line from another carrier or just starting with a new one? If not, and you're particular about the number...you can't pick your own number at the apple store. At att, you may select the area code and xxx-xxxx.

Im starting a new one -- don't care about the number that's chosen

Unless you are looking to use Apple's iPhone Upgrade Program I would recommend using the Carrier's store. Most times there are specials you can use at the Carrier. You can also try others like Best Buy who have some periodic great specials.
The only real advantage for the Apple store is their new plan.

UPDATE:

For those interested...I stopped by Apple today and they were able to add an att next line to my plan no problem. I picked up the gold 128gb 6s plus.
