I've been reading a lot of conflicting reports about ATT AUthorized users and their ability to buy an iphone at an apple store. I heard that on July 11th the Apple store was saying only the primary holder was allowed to buy an iPhone. Then I read that ATT told the apple guys it was ok for authorized users to buy iPhones on July 12th. Can anyone confirm/deny these reports?

    Thanks

I am on a family plan with my mom. I am an authorized user on the account. I went to the store, and he asked for a photo ID which I didn't have but was still able to buy one. I took my mother social security number, drivers license number, and the expiration date. You only need the last four digits of the social of the primary account holder. At least that was how it was for me. I bought it on July 11th, BTW.

    idk about the 12th..
but i wasnt allowed to buy on 11th despite i.d. last four of dads social security number.. i even had our apple rep call at&t and they said we can. but the apple store had no way to process authorized users.. the apple store held my and my sisters phones and came back with my dad a couple hours later.. and they activated my sisters phone on my dads number and he had to go to at&t and get a new sim.. they totally dropped the ball on the whole activation process..

hope you have better luck with the authorized user stuff..

I bought mine from AT&T on the 11th as an authorized user. My dad is the primary and I just set it up online a few days before. Just had to show him my ID and he gladly allowed me to swipe my credit card.

I am an authorized user who bought a 16gb at the apple store on the 11th. When the sales rep realized i wasn't the account holder he took me over to the genius bar where they called at&t to verify me and then they let me purchase the phone. Not a hassle at all.

Was anyone able to buy the iPhone, who is an authorized user, and still had a FAN discount on their AT&T account @ the APPLE store?

I haven't heard of anyone that has (mostly because of the FAN discount)...but just wondering.

Pretty horrible customer service and roll out on the part of BOTH companies IMO.

I've called two (three now) different apple stores in my area, and both have told me I would NEED the account holder and that authorized users wouldn't be able to purchase the phone at the apple store.

Unless they changed their sales policies in the last day or so that is inaccurate. It is possible though that they decided to stop letting authorized users buy the iPhone so they don't have to spend at least 10 minutes on the phone with at&t verifying who you are.

I was one of the first people in the apple store on the 11th though and they had no problem calling at&t for me.
