As a current owner of the 3G since July, I wasn't eligible for an upgrade as of last week and Apple/ATT systems both said I would have to pay full retail, which totally makes sense. My girlfriend still had the original iPhone, so I gave her my 3G and purchased the 3GS on her plan for the subsidy price.

Now, I just went and checked my eligibility again for the hell of it and suddenly I can purchase the 3GS at the 199/299 price. Did they change the policy in the last week?!

What the ****? They better give me a $200 credit on my account. I paid $499 for my 3GS on launch day.

edit: Nevermind.... I pay less than $99/month.

The change was made before launch, if you paid 499 you were not eligible. Some who preordered will be getting a refund as they paid and then could have had it cheaper.

Only effected those eligible to upgrade july, august, or september and also took into account your credit and monthly fee to calculate who got a lower price.
