I was on a AT&T Next 24 plan on 10/08/2015...which is for 30 monthly payments. I decided to pay on off in the first month.

I'm glad I did...it's unlocked now :) :

Umm, congrats.... Btw, customers who are still in the middle of making payments on Next have been getting their iPhones unlocked too. ;)

I tired getting any number of my phones unlocked while still on next. Outstanding history with att etc and it never worked. I'm convinced there is/was a glitch in the system allowing people still on next payment plans to unlock their phones. Whether they glitch was with Apple or ATT I won't speculate. Regardless it certainly wasn't the norm.

Congrats on your unlocked phone, although in unsure why you'd hop on next if you wanted to pay it off this early. Whatever makes you happy though.

Then it was over the hill to the right.

Why not? I like doing it that way. I pay the tax up front...then make my first 28.?? installment...then pay the remaining 8??.?? pay off. They are like WTHeck...lol. They think they got you for 30 installments...and they think "I got this one for a while...then BOOM...I'n FREE!!! HEHE :D
Don't kid yourself. AT&T just got paid a big chunk of money from you in a short period of time. For AT&T it's more like......

BOOM!!!!!

LOL. :D

Nothing wrong with paying off debt early at all, but if you want it unlocked, and are paying it off straight away anyway, why not just buy it unlocked?

(and I'm from that "dumb generation" and buy mine unlocked every time)

AT&T (the company) couldn't care less about your shenanigans. Only a rude generation though would take out whatever it is you're taking out on the "dumb generation" on an AT&T customer service rep working for most likely not too much money.

If you want to mess with AT&T (the company) instead of AT&T (the underpaid "dumb generation" service rep), buy the phone unlocked full price from Apple, and deny AT&T your money. That's the only thing that'll actually affect the company.

Something tells me that's not something you'd ever do though.

a few points:

1) it's an interest free loan, you don't gain anything from paying it off early. If you were truly trying to make/save a buck you'd keep that money in whatever investment or account and keep making money off ATT. I never turn down an interest free loan.

2) I have unlocked every NEXT phone I've owned before paying them off as I travel quite a bit, process takes a couple days.

3) You can pay off the phone online in a matter of minutes if/when you do want to sell it.

4). You sound like a bit of a tool.

/end thread

Usually u have to make 3 payments on att next. That's what's been written and told to me.

So they should not let u pay it off so soon. Unless u were in ur first 14 day period.

I wonder who's dumber, swear by their incompetence but still subscribe to their service? just wondering

I was was told by AT&T when I was thinking about doing Next that I would be able to pay it off after making the first payment. I don't see it listed on their website how many payments are needed before pay off unless I missed it.

That was a pointless waste of time. Just buy a full price upgrade or purchase unlocked iPhone outright.
Hopefully this thread is soon closed.....

I remember reading on AT&T's site last year somewhere that one would have to make the first two scheduled payments before being able to pay off the remaining balance in one lump sum. I don't know whether or not that has changed, though.
