Things I noticed today when I did a OTA update (MF3) on my ATT S4.

I've been using the ES File Explorer app to tether. Before the update it would seem to completely bypass any verifying. After the update, a pop verifying pop-up now appears and blocks it. I discovered that if you DON'T press the ok button on the pop-up, you can still tether. :)

Although sometimes you might need to remain on the same screen(shown in pic). But for the most part, I've been able to press the home key and still be connected. Tried it out the last time for about 30min to make sure it's stable.

I also noticed after the update is the WatchOn app always shows up on the statusbar and remote in notification screen. Even when I go into the WatchOn settings and disable it, after another reboot it will show up again after about a minute. Might need to install a startup manager app to stop this. Anyways, doesn't really bother me since I rarely reboot my phone.

As for rooting, the same motochopper method doesn't work. You'll have to use THIS method. It's just as quick and easy, but if you have your SD card formatted to anything other than exFAT, it will probably be a slight pain to back up, change format, and restore. Or you can use another card if you got.

Thanks for this. Handy to know how to do this should I flash back to official rom and want to use triangle away.

I would've held off on the MF3 update.

Unfortunately my phone came shipped with it, still no unlocked BL yet. Doesn't look too great either unless a unlocked BL gets leaked.

I think the WatchOn issue is actually due to an update to the app itself and not the MF3 update. I'm still on MDL (running SHOstock) and I have the same issue with it. It's easy enough to disable, but I can confirm that it turns itself back on (the notification thing) once you reboot.

The MF3 update has nothing to do with the locked bootloader. The bootloader was locked before the MF3 update too. The issue is that the update blocked the previous root method. While I'm sure they'll find another way around it for root purposes (actually, they already have), I wouldn't hold your breath on them finding a way to unlock the bootloader. (Thanks, AT&T! /s)

Because of this, while I love my S4, I'm patiently awaiting the next Nexus. I'm tired of playing these games with the carriers. While I'm still using AT&T, I'm now out of contract since May and don't plan on re-upping with them again anytime soon. It sucks having an upgrade sitting there, but if they're going to support locked bootloaders from here on out (and they've stated they are), then they've lost me. As soon as T-Mo coverage in my area looks good, I'm out. I'll take my Nexus and run. And flash and ROM until my heart's content!

HDR takes a bit of time compared to the HTC One, Z10 and iPhone 5.

Yes it can get toasty - mine frequently is in the 35-38c and a higher if gaming. It tends to be at 27c when idle.

Definitely no lag. Can't really speak on heat yet since I keep a back case on it, but I haven't experienced the screen get warm since after the update, which I felt often when in my pocket.

I noticed the same behavior with ES File Explorer and other tether widgets. Has anyone figured out how to tether properly now that root is available for MF3? I'd like to just go into the regular settings menu and not go through ES.

Most likely you'll need to install a custom ROM for that.

Probably. Unfortunately, no custom ROMs exist for MF3 yet.

Very fast IMO. With the HDR on, the process bar only lasts 2 seconds max at the hightest resolution. Most of the time it's less than that.
