I did it at an Apple Store. They activated on my dads number (who was eligible for $299 price.) I took out the SIM in the iPhone, put it in his Samsung phone. Came home and activated it with my SIM card. Called AT&T to remove data plan from my dads number. Done.

I need to talk to a different rep since the one I talked to told me I couldn't remove the iPhone data plan within 30 days or I would be charged full price for the phone...

For your information, I went to an Apple store today and tried to use my wife's number to upgrade my iphone (without activating it through my wife's number). The Apple representative there told me that he couldn't do it. He had to put the $30 data plan on my wife's number. I then called ATT...they told me that I can go ahead and activate it on my wife's account and then call them them back to take out the data plan. They just have to double check that my wife number is not on an iphone, even my old one. I decided to upgrade in an ATT store in the future when they have iphones in stock.

So my mom can get the iphone for the discounted price so I was going to buy the phone on her number and then can I just put my sim card out of my 3g razr and it will work. or do I have to have it activated through att. but if i have it activated through att then it will be under my moms number and not mine so what do I have to do.
