ATT has gotten greedy as hell. If you want to extend normal 2 year contract, not only are they charging a $45 upgrade fee (which I thought was the activation fee), they are also adding a $40 activation fee! I just got a summarry for charges for my new phone and both fees showed up. I hope I will be able to get them to waive the activation fee like I have done in the past. Sheesh. This is getting ridiculous.

Were you on the new mobile share value plans? If you were and then signed a 2 year contract that line will go up $40.00 for the 2 years.

Does it say activation fee? I've not heard of anybody else getting charged that. It's either $45 for buying a phone on contract, or $15 for a phone on Next if you don't already have one on Next. Not heard of anybody getting charged a $40 fee.

No I am not on the mobile share plan. The charges show up clearly as an
"upgrade" charge and an "activation" charge.

Yes it says activation fee. I always had an activation fee that I usually got waived. The $45 upgrade fee is what is new this time. It showed the upgrade fee when I purchased the phone but saw nothing abt yet another activation fee. I only know of it because ATT sent me this morning a summary of changes to my bill because I upgraded my phone.

Just as an update, they only charged me the update fee on my bill. Has anyone had any luck getting this waived like activation fees in the past? I would think it would be hard to get waived since they tell you abt. it up front when you buy the phone.

My att store also charges a $15 sim card swap fee now. I used to be able to go and switch from my BB, iPhone 6 plus, and Windows phone no problem. Now, if I have to change sim card size, they are charging $15, it's all about the nickel and dime!

There was no charge for a SIM as late as July. That's awful.

Must be a 3rd party retailer you are going to. Corporate store don't charge for SIMs.

Was this Corp store? Or authorized reseller?

I switched out sim nano to microsim in August. It was free. I switched from microsim back to nano sim in September.

No fee.

I thought it was a corporate store, in a free standing building. Needless to say, I was pretty mad.

Just looked it up, it is a company store.

If it is truly a corporate store I would escalate it to get your money back. Corporate stores shouldn't be charging for SIMs. They don't even charge you if customer care mails you one out.

I was able to upgrade early (my 2-year contract was not due to expire for 3 weeks) with no ETF, and get the upgrade fee waived, and get expedited shipping free simply by chatting with them. Be aware, however, that the first person you get on your call/chat (and I highly recommend chat as opposed to calling them) will tell you there is nothing they can do. You have to ask to speak to customer relations/retention specialist and be nice to them. They have the latitude to help you.

I upgraded two lines with NEXT and got charged two $15 upgrade fees. I just used chat and asked for them to be removed. They credited it back right away without any problems
