I just checked on Apple webite regarding my Eligibility for an upgrade. Apples website only had the NEXT plans as available options no option to renew and

I have a feeling that AT&T will end up changing this on us or making us wait if we want to do a normal subsidy instead of their garbage NEXT plan.

Thanks for the info, I was about to get ready to pre-order from Apple, are you saying I can't do this if I want to keep my unlimited AT&T plan? How do they port your existing phone number on the new phone if you order it on their website?

Be careful when doing it through AT&T online, they will do their best to force you off of it. I upgrade every year and I go to the local AT&T store the morning of and purchase it that way. I have heard a lot of stories of people who preorder and end up losing their unlimited data

AT&T has already bumped my 2-year eligibility date effective now but it appears to just be for iPhones and nothing else according to what I saw on the website this morning. My eligibility date was supposed to be 9/25 I think or around that date. I thought I was going to be SOL on getting a phone delivered on launch day as I thought 9/18 was going to be release day.

My eligibility was September 21st, and I'm good to go too. They will let us keep the unlimited data. I'm ordering at Apple.com as returns are easier if there was a problem with your phone.

However, I'm considering switching to T-Mobile and paying full price on my phone (plus pay the ETFs on my other lines).

Is T Mobile that inferior to AT&T? They seem to have the same or better LTE speeds in my area. Why do so many stay with AT&T?

I checked my eligibility and I don't see the early upgrade pricing I had anticipated. I am grandfathered under contract and now I have to figure out the best way to move forward, I'm not really interested in next but every year this makes my head hurt and contract options and upgrades are diminishing.

For unlimited customers on AT&T, is there a way to lower your monthly bill after the contract has expired or is this reserved for only customers on fixed data plans? I ask because I'm debating whether to just by the phone outright vs. using one of these finance plans.

My concern is being able to buy it with the two year agreement and not having to do the NEXT crap. I want official word from AT&T on it

There's not a whole lot of solid information on this issue. I've heard you can keep unlimited data if you go with their Next program, but if you want the subsidized price phone, it's a purchase at AT&T online store only.

You can't order a 2 year contract phone from Apple, only At&t. Stopped several months ago.

You can still order it through at&t for 2 year contract, just not apple anymore.

It is online only, you cannot do it even in corp. Att store. Going to be a mess. I predict mess with Att preorder and a mess with Apple Upgrade program.

The only question I have is how much will be 3d party unlock service? Last year it was 2-5 b -days and cost 100 dollars. I cannot have a locked phone with Att international roaming.

Only in certain markets can COR store not do 2-year contracts. In my market(Long Island, NY) the reps are still able to.

Do you think it would make more sense to switch providers if you're at a point where your contract has been fulfilled? I'm not liking the looks of any of this.. it seems very convoluted and complicated.. You think something as universal as a phone would be a simple affair, but noooooooooo!!!!!

If your contract is up then the world is yours. I've crunched the numbers and a two year contract essentially nets out the same for me as buying it outright and going without a contract.

The one thing you should NEVER DO is have a line that is upgrade eligible and let it sit. You're just p*ssing money away, since each month you're basically paying extra for the privilege of upgrading every two years.

I just checked my upgrade eligibility at AT&T and it's saying I'm currently available for a $0 down upgrade on AT&T Next or on 10/05/2015 for a 2 year contract. In the past AT&T would offer the 2 year contract upgrade a month or so in advance. This time however they are holding you to the exact date you activated the phone even though it was originally pre-ordered several weeks before it actually arrived and was activated. This is now preventing me from taking part in the pre-order on Saturday — if I want to continue with a 2 year contract and keep my unlimited plan. When calling them I had no luck with getting them to open up my upgrade eligibility with a 2 year contract before 10/05. Any other launch day iPhone 5S customers having the same problem?

Well, since you can't get the discounted price for 2 year contract direct with Apple, that makes my switch to T-Mobile make even more sense.

This is not true, at least in my case.

My 2yr/unlimited contract technically ends 9/23/2015, yet AT&T reports that I am now eligible for upgrade.

Perhaps it's because my contract ends in September, rather than your October?

the next program is actually great. your not locked into a contract and can upgrade every year which you can no longer do on a subcidized phone. i paid mine off way before the 18 months and then you have an unlocked phone and can do as u please which i sold a month ago to put towards the 6s plus.
