ATT vs home cable internet

In the experience of others here, with an iPhone, will the web run faster on the AT&T network or on a home cable internet?? My home cable is very fast normally, but I didn't know if the control is in the iPhone or the internet itself.

Home cable internet (assuming it is at least 768Kdn/128Kup) is much faster...

Once I leave the house, should I look to reassign the web to AT&T or will it occur automatically???

If it doesn't find a WiFi signal it will automatically use AT&T's Edge.
