Sprint has been bought by Softbank which is a good. Their network should improve with the infusion of money from Softbank. Also the biggest thing for me is that Sprint is truly unlimited. I regularly use more than 20 gigs a month. No letters or slowdowns from Sprint. In the San Diego area Sprint is awesome. I have no problems at home or at work in Oceanside.

That and the dinosaur and very slow CDMA 3G that you'll have to deal with when away from their limited LTE coverage would be enough to drive me nuts:D

But they're improving!!! Just wait a few years ;)

Their EVDO speeds are pretty much worthless around here. My buddy's on Sprint have glorified paperweights when not on LTE in Boston.

OP where do you live?

I just did a test at my job with Sprint. Packed City Hall, NYC.

18mbs down 12 up.

I guarantee you ATT wont go over 2mbs here...

T-Mobile is around the same as I did their test drive several months back.

I live in a densely populated neighborhood in Brooklyn and have AT&T. My typical speeds run between 20-30 Mbps down, sometimes dipping to 10 Mbps down during peak hours. Sprint fluctuates between 1 bar and no service in the same area. During the sporadic times it gets 1 bar (no LTE), the Internet connection always times out.

Its funny how their reps keep talking people into waiting about a year or so and hang in there and people just stick around longer :D
lol
Their customer service reps are as bad as used car salesman:D

I read last night that Marcelo Claure has said that Sprint will be rebuilding it's network and that if you give him two years Sprint would be the #1 and #2 network in the top markets.

This made me very confused. What the hell was Network Vision about if not "rebuilding" the network? What has Sprint been DOING for the last three years and still has yet to FINISH?! Did the last three years NOT happen?!!! Rebuilding the network! What, are we ripping out all the brand new stuff and replacing it again?

No one is apparently asking any of THOSE questions of Claure.

Did Claure forget that Dan Hesse, his predecessor, said and I quote "Give me two years and you will have the network of your dreams." THAT was in February 2014!

What the hell?!!!

New ownership, Softbank, a Japanese telecom company, bought Sprint. Softbank has made waves in Japan, coming from nothing to be a dominate force in the Japanese cell market. I think this is why Claure said what he said.

Hmmmm…OK.

I went back and reread some of the links I followed earlier and I misinterpreted this. Instead of the word "rebuild" he used the word "rearchitected" or "rearchitecting". Meaning, I think, that Sprint will be focusing on making the current network stronger.

But I still have a problem with "in 18-24 months" Sprint will be #1 in the top markets. It stills sounds too much like Dan Hesse's comment.

I live in Brooklyn also, where in Brooklyn? Its a big borough.

I was in the sheapshead bay area last night around 10pm.

My cousin and I did a speed test. Att: 9mb/s Sprint: 20mb/s

It all depends on where you live and if you travel a lot. I switched from AT&T to Sprint and have no regrets. My LTE speeds with Sprint are anywhere from 10-35MG on average which is almost exactly what I got with AT&T. My bill is cheaper and most importantly, I have truly UNLIMITED data. It all depends on your area. Give the 14 day trial period a run and see if it works for you.

I'm going to have to check out my area. I had sprint long ago but hated it, it may be better now. I also checked out the plans and they are very good....not to mention I have a 25% discount for service from them.

Well, it certainly was not for lack of trying to leave, I'll say that. :D

It's certainly better now of course, but nowhere near where it should be. Sprint is getting killed in a lot of places still.

I'll just add that I have recently discovered that part of the problem here in Arizona is that emergency services are still squatting on the 800/850mhz band (Band 26). Until Sheriff Joe and his compatriots get off their collective duffs and clear the channel Sprint can't use it.

I disagree. I am focusing on facts while recognizing that Sprint has made improvement in many areas. But the facts are that there are still places where they are not doing well.

We may not like the facts, but they are what they are.

Yes, Sprint is repurposing Nextel towers. And that's great. However, Sprint told me I would have blazing fast LTE on my Band 25 only iPhone 5 in September 2012. It took until August 2013 for that to happen and I had to drive to the first of only two towers upgraded to LTE in Phoenix to get it.

I am not a big fan of paying for something I am told I can get, then being told I have to upgrade to get what I am supposed to be paying for now.

That's not negative. It's reality. Sprint has always done this. But I'm still with Sprint (16 years).

When it comes to Sprint I had forgotten that I am in their most advanced market and that is why I am very happy!

Thanks, I'm in the Memphis area. Don't know how well it'll work here?

here is a forum that is all Sprint and this is their subforum on the Memphis network buildup

I have to warn you these guys are very hard core on tech speak!

New ownership, Softbank, a Japanese telecom company, bought Sprint.

Yeah, that was two years ago. I think we can stop calling this "new" ownership.

In any case, a lot has happened in two years: like the revelation that SoftBank's actual motive was to also buy T-Mobile and merge the two companies, and that was how Sprint's problems were to be fixed. Only regulators (thankfully) intervened, and SoftBank is stuck with fixing Sprint's mess with far fewer resources on the ground than they had planned for.

The result: in two years, not a lot of headway, and Sprint must now resort to gimmicks like "cut your bill in half" (at the expense of having to buy new phones and transfer resale value of your existing gear to Sprint) to keep from falling to #4.

As much as I would like to see 4 strong carriers in the US and lots of competition, I'm not holding my breath for improvement, or flocking to Sprint anytime soon.

I still feel the market would've been better served if Sprint had been allowed to die a natural death, and the assets sold to one or more strong regionals (like U.S. Cellular) who could've parlayed this into an opportunity to grow to a national presence. Instead, SoftBank has Sprint on life support, and frankly having such a feeble #3 carrier still around is the best thing that could've happened to Verizon and AT&T.

Check your area first.

Look at rootmetrics and sensorly. Do not rely on Sprint's maps.

Sprint coverage is very good where they finally have fixed their issues. But where issues remain you may find slow speeds.

My iPhone 5 typically gets about 1.5-5mbps down on LTE. But it's Band 25 only. Spark, which is Band 25, 26 and 41 will improve things but you have to be in the areas where it's improved.

Customer service has also improved, but pick an avenue to deal with Sprint. If online, stick with online. If in person, stick with that. Customer service has not improved so much that both call centers, in person and online know what the other is doing.

Be prepared for your first bill to be prorated for the portion of the current month within the billing period. New customers always get surprised when they find their first bill higher than they expected.

I've been with Sprint since 1999, so if there's any specific questions - ask.

Just going to state this…

My wife got an iPhone 6 about a week and a half ago and I got a 6+ last Friday. As far as service goes…nothing has changed much.

Still marginal LTE at home, dropping to 3G a lot and the same LTE performance at work. These are triband devices capable of Spark (Sprint's word for 1900mhz, 800mhz and 2.5gh). So what this means is that Sprint hasn't gotten around to buildout of Band 26 and 41 around here, although Band 25 seems to have been turned up.

I am in the Atlanta market with an iPhone 6 on Sprint, a couple of years ago Sprint was pure hell. Now, I am extremely happy with my service. Seamlessly streaming music, downloading things, browsing the web, at super fast speeds. My phone rarely ever switches from LTE to 3G. I am always on LTE. I couldn't be any happier with the way Sprint has been handling things. I look at friends with AT&T and Verizon now and feel extremely bad watching them have to constantly monitor their data usage. How fun is that? I also drove to New York last week and streamed Netflix and Spotify 98% of the trip with no buffering. Amazing.

I am very lucky to be in Sprint's most up to date market "Greater Chicago" I get a lot of Band 41 and 26 and at times I drop down to 3G as well. I am very happy LTE for me is very fast!
