I wrote a post that tries to cover all adapters that allow Macs to use third party SSDs in Apple proprietary connectors.
I put it in the MacBook Pro section because those are the machines I have. However, it tries to cover everything from 2010 MacBook Airs to 2019 iMacs.
I make reference to a bunch of large threads that cover big chunks of this material in much greater detail - e.g. huge threads in the Mac Pro or iMac or MacBook Pro sections that cover relevant info.
So far as I can tell, there's no such thread for MacBook Airs. If you know one I should include, please let me know. Obviously a lot of material relevant to Retina MacBook Pros is also relevant to MacBook Airs.
Also, comments very much welcomed. I am far from an expert. Thank you.
