I was in an apple store in the Netherlands earlier today for a genius bar appointment and in the 30minutes I was there I watched, yes I counted, 28 Apple TV 4s being sold.
Thats nearly 1 every minute!!

Didn't know there was that much hype about them, I presume its because you can play games on them now.
Everyone who was at the store looking at the display models was playing games.
Shows people priorities doesnt it, no one noticed the cool new remote or anything, it was just the games that were interesting.

Like all the people I see trying out the iphone 6s and 6s plus. They are all playing games (or checking facebook), no one trying out the 3D touch, which is really cool actually and the first "new" thing to be brought to the iPhones.
I never play games on my i devices, I think they are boring, if I play a game then its on my computers. Might just be me but I think its a shame that all people seem to care about is playing games on these wonderful devices that can do so much more.

Yeah. I was just in a Boston Apple Store and there were a lot of people buying these. Granted a lot of people were buying everything.

Same thing in Paris, they were literally flying off the shelves...

I was really surprised even if I expected some first day hardcore fans to be there.

But maybe that's a launch day thing...

I think one of the reason is all the previous ATV users will be going out and upgrading. First true upgrade for quite a few years.

I think it is a combo of things - people invested in the rather limited ATV3 and now got their "fix" in with the ATV4 that resolved some very long standing complaints about the ATV3 and of course those who are new to drinking the Apple too cool aid. I say this with a bit of humour as I would be the first to say that the ATV has its place and serves many well but equally many are left frustrated and feel cheated by the very slow move to bring forth more services with this device.

Back from one of the Portland Oregon stores. It isn't a mad-house or anything, but most of the people there were buying AppleTV 4s. Sounded like the 32gig was the best seller. I bought a 32 to use in a second room while waiting for a new AV reliever to arrive. That'll hook up to a 64gig ATV 4 in my livingroom.

I'm pleased with it so far. Having to re-log into all the channels is a drag and so is having to search the App Store to find all the ones that were default on the ATV3, but once it's all set up it's great! Now Apple needs to get their content agreements in place so that they can make a version of Netflix/Hulu and or turn the iTunes movie/TV stores into a streaming service like Apple Music. Once something like that happens this thing will be unbeatable.

Not here. . Southlake texas store had loads (hundreds on multiple shelves) of them and no one was even looking (except me). I asked the clerk on checkout about sales. . she said "a few" and this was after lunch. FWIW.

I quite like it so far. . .

What is the "so much more" that should be so captivating?

Not here (Chicago area). I just went to Best Buy and at first they told me they didn't have the new one. Then after I told the rep another rep told me they had it, he went and checked and pulled one out of the back. He didn't even know they got delivered this morning. So I was the only one to even ask for one. lol (and typical BB experience).

But but but I thought so many people here said the demand would be very low on Day One?????? Don't tell me.... they were... dare I say it.... W R O N G ????

They have sold 25 million of ATVs previously... and MANY of those users have been awaiting a model update.

Only idiots would suggest that there would be no demand for new ones...

Indianapolis was the same story. I played with it for about 5 min and they moved 8. None of them even played with the other demo set up.

I was at that store this morning for some repairs, in the hour or so that I was there, there was a steady stream of people buying them. The employees also did a good job of restocking the shelves, so it never looked like that stock was diminishing. I bought one after my repair, I'm liking it so far.
