Bravia 850E....Anyone have the settings that work between the two machines? Also, I can’t find the cable test, is it searchable in the menu? Thanks!

Paul

it's somewhere in the resolution settings, it might be in the 4:2:2 portion, not at home so can't tell you 100%

for HDR, you must have a newer HDMI cable that can handle the extra bandwidth needed.

My experience with my new 900 Bravia.
Use hdmi2 or hdmi3 only.
Make sure hdmi is set to enhanced mode in android UI.

Thanks for the reply...when you get back in town I’d appreciate your settings please. The amount of changes that can be made between the two machines is quite a bit so knowing what works would be awesome

I found the answer on a Sony forum, worked perfectly. Follow this:

1. Hit the "Home" button on the Sony TV remote. You'll see a bunch of icons popup

2. Arrow down to the bottom to Settings (it looks like a gear icon on the x900e)

3. Once in settings, go into External Inputs

4. Scroll down and go into HDMI signal Format (Enhance 4K HDMI signal Format)

5. Once there you'll see the magic setting we need, which is the Enhanced Format (Displays High-Quality HDMI signals on HDMI inputs 2 & 3...), so select it and navigate back out using the back button

I then went in and switched my apple TV to HDMI input 2, unplugged its power and replugged it back in. When the Apple TV booted back up, I went into the display settings and it showed as being HRD now...wooohoooo!!!! So yeah, it apparently only works for inputs 2 & 3 so be weary of that.

It took me a bit to figure this out myself.

I have the 850E and the STRDH550 receiver. I was pondering buying a new receiver since I figured out mine did not pass through 4K.

So I ended up using HDMI 2 with my Apple TV 4K as well. Works great. I was using chroma 4:2:2 for a bit but I would lose sound and the picture would shut down for a few seconds. Went to chroma 4:2:0 and I've had no issues thus far. For sound I had to use the optical cable so I lost surround sound (I think). Just couldn't get it to work since I set up the Apple TV 4K. Just set up multi sound for now.

Surround worked when the Apple TV 4 was connected to the receiver and used the arc function.

Am I doing something wrong?

Via optical you can get DD5.1, DTS 5.1 and PCM 2.0 from a recent sony bravia.
You must set your aTV to output DD5.1 to get surround sound from HDMI in via TOSLink out to your AVR.
Bravia needs to be set to Sound System in sound settings.

Thanks. I'll take a look at my settings and see what I have.

Seems I'm having more issues with the Apple TV 4K since I got it.

The HDMI 2 on my Sony TV now doesn't play sound through the HDMI cable to the Apple TV 4K and it did for a few weeks. Had to switch to HDMI 3. Now I have sound, but when I'm watching Netflix and pause a show to go to the home screen the TV makes a switch (pause, Sony blue screen) and the Netflix screen comes back.
