Its not booting patchstick on bootup even with a approved USB stick. Transcend JetFlash V30 - 2 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive TS2GJFV30 (Black)
Ive tried the 3.0.1 dmg and 3.0.2 dmg but it wont boot the hack? Ive done as instructed :
    http://www.appletvhacks.net/2012/04/...tion-apple-tv/
    same info from many guides.
Ive hacked psp, xbox, ps1 and others in past so steps are similar to other devices. I also tried holding down MENU and - to boot recovery. I still get normal apple load up. Any ideas on my next step. I hate to pay aflash 40 bucks for something I can do for free. Thx
Ive tried 6 different USB/sd cards and no patchstick boot.
I bought this ATV for sole purpose to get XBMC on it. It has the 3.0.2 update on it thsi I installed as soon as I got it home.

Don't know what method that link is telling you to use, because the link is screwed up :)

I've always used this on my ATV1 and never had any trouble:- atvusb-creator

Ive been using The Windows XP/Vista interim solution atv-win .. and followed the instructions.
It creates a image not a group of files like in the picture. Plus its 2 gigs.. Is this normal?

Thats correct it should create an image file and then copy it to your usb stick, you then insert the usb stick into your ATV1 and power it up.

The instruction are for the Mac version thats why you get an image file and not the group of files.

how long i hold Menu and - on remote to make it go into recovery?
I wait for it to go black and grey again then let go.. tried to hold longer but it keeps seeming to reboot black and grey.

This is a win guide.. following instructions but running out of usb drives LOL

Holding menu and - just reboots the ATV.

What I do is unplug the ATV from the mains, put the usb stick in and then plug it back into the mains. You'll know if it's working because you'll get a linux penguin sat on top of the ATV on your screen and then a load of linux comand line text scrolling up the screen as it's patched.

If none of that happens and your ATV just reboots normally then try a different USB stick, it's very picky about which ones work.

:( embarrassed to say I caved and bought Atv flash. I tried 8 usb drives with free hack but it failed everytime and it was driving me crazy so paid 40 bucks and got a simple download to put on USB drive. I tried 3 times with 2 different usb and it was the drive that I put Atv flash on twice that worked. Not sure why my attempts kept failing and i tried the drive that worked many times with free hack.
TY for your tips and ideas. But to stream my movie collection to my TV WIRELESSLY is the bomb and with XBMC looking tight Im all smiles.
