I currently have my old G4 533 dual hooked up to a 42 inch 720p/1080i lcd. I have a library of ripped DVD in "so so" quality, but gets the job done. I would like to start a new library of ripped HD-DVD and Bluray as the graininess of the normal DVD ripps are starting to drive me crazy. Anyway, will the apple TV allow me to play and store HD-ripped DVD's? And I assume the sound quality is not DTS or Dolby Digital unless I can rip AC3, correct?

1. How do you plan to rip HD or Blu-Ray discs?
2. No reason to do more than 720 for ATV.
3. You will not be able to get 5.1 audio to play on your ATV in an easy way since it uses Quicktime for playback, which does not passthrough DD or DTS signals.

In my experience the atv cant play 720p at a decent bitrate, I usually encounter stuttering (drop in framerate) at some point if a film is encoded at just below 5000kbps. Also file sizes are limited to 4gb.
