ATV Patchstick question

Okay, I was wondering about the patchstick. Every time I try to load the software and reboot my ATV, it doesn't pick up on my thumb drive. So, can anyone go step by step through this process and help me out? Or lead me to a site that would help me get everything set up in order to do this?

And why isn't there a sticky for this?

Not every thumb drive works. The patchstick site has a list of good ones.

I used the cheapie $6.99 4GB usb drive from Aldi (pqi brand I think).

Used this tutorial: http://iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=3080 mainly to get boxee going, which of course requires the patchstick.
