ATV Peer-to-Peer w/MBP no network

Hello,
I wish to connect a MBP with a ATV, peer-to-peer. I cannot use existing network
at school where I work. LED projector would be connected via Kanex ATV Pro HDMI to VGA Adaptor. Any suggestions/comments greatly appreciated.

I don't know if this works or not. Try creating an Ad Hoc network on your MBP and connecting your ATV to that. Is the MPB on wifi or Ethernet? Does it need an internet connection? These are a few things that come to my mind.
