I bought a 55 LGC1 three weeks ago. I have an Bose 300 sound bar and the latest generation AppleTV.

When I hooked everything up it worked just fine. AppleTV remote controls everything. Music and audio play out of the soundbar. No problems.

Until 45 minutes ago.

I was watching Ted Lasso and I used the Apple remote to control the volume and then paused the show. I went to the other room for less than 10 minutes and when I came back, the volume on the AppleTV doesn't work.

I can control the volume with the LG TV remote, but not the AppleTV remote. When I push volume on the AppleTV remote the light on the device blinks, but the volume does not go up or down.

It was literally working less than 45 minutes ago.

I have checked all the connections. I have rebooted all three devices. I have gone in to the settings on both the TV and the AppleTV and made sure nothing has changed. The audio is coming out of the soundbar. I can hear it, but I just can't control it. The ATV remote controls enough that the TV and ATV go on and off when I use it to turn them off.

Everything is perfect except the volume doesn't work. It did, and then it suddenly stopped with no explanation.

Literally the only thing that happened between the time it worked and the time it stopped working was the screen saver on the AppleTV came on.

What would make the AppleTV remote stop working only for the volume up and down?

Any ideas?

Update: I have removed the soundbar entirely from the equation. I have reset both the TV and the ATV. The light on the ATV blinks when I press the volume on the Magic Remote, but the volume does not go up and down.

Different set up, but same problem this morning. Rebooted everything, harmony volume works but apple remote volume (and mute) does not - Apple TV is receiving signal from remote. All other apple remote functions work as expected. Nothing changed under remote setting in Apple TV.

I called Apple Support yesterday and they fixed it... except it broke again. They had me push and hold down HOME button and VOLUME DOWN button until the screen showed a Remote Connection Lost message on the TV. The wait 5 seconds and push a button on the remote and it says Remote Connected. Essentially rebooting the remote. It worked! For less than 24 hours because it was broken again this morning. No idea what to do....

Ok, I fixed it again. I went in an changed the Volume Control setting to TV via IR instead of Auto. Now it works again. This is so weird!

Did you install the latest FW for the remote which was released last week? (Note: This update is for the latest Siri remote released in 2021.) If so, perhaps it introduced another bug. If not, maybe the FW update will help keep it from recurring again.

Go to Settings -- Remote to check the FW level. I'm not around my ATV 4K at the moment so I can't verify the exact settings location and my memory is not to be trusted. It is supposed to automatically update, but that can take weeks. If you want to force it to update, some people claim that plugging the remote into a Mac or iPad when the ATV is idle will cause it to update after a few minutes. Not sure that works, but worth a try.

FYI, my Siri remote, the latest version, is up to date on FW, but I did have a short volume incident within Hulu Live TV last night. I closed and restarted Hulu and it worked fine thereafter. Not sure if that is related to your issue though.

The fw update now allows me to control my bang & olufsen beovision tv audio via infra red on the atv remote , that's a first and a very welcome update

Yep, tvOS 15.5.1 and 15.6 seem to have broken HDMI-CEC with my LG and Sonos setup. I've owned Apple TV 4K since Christmas, and now basic volume up, down and mute don't even work. What garbage the Apple software team keeps putting out. It's so frustrating.

I'm just using LG Magic Wand remote to control Apple TV 4K when I need the handful of apps that aren't on LG webOS.

mine failed again after watching a show and turning the volume down and clicking the volume down multiple times. Had to go through the above to get it working again.
