I just got an Airport Extreme which I love. I have hooked up a 300GB USB drive to it, which I am using with my Macbook. Is there anyway to tell the ATV to use that USB drive as an extended library? I only hae 7 gigs left on the ATV drive.

Just add them to your iTunes library as usual and they will stream.

However, there is a little bit of lag time when first playing the movies.

That's all you need to do. I have A 1TB hooked up to mine and there is a slight delay. Very, very minor though.

...isn't there a USB plug on the ATV itself?

Can't you just plug the external HDD into that USB slot on the back of the ATV?
