I just recently picked up a ATV4 and was disappointed to find we can only output audio to one source. This is important to me as I use my ATV1 on a daily basis as the hub to a wireless whole home audio setup. I have Airport Express in numerous rooms hooked up to powered speakers.

I was thinking I could move to ATV4 to gain additional functionality it offers over 1st gen...but it appears in the way I use as wireless whole home audio, it would be a step back.

Are there thoughts as to whether Apple might add multiple audio out capabilities at a future date or is this a feature that likely won't show up because it goes against some core philosophy?

Thanks,

Kevin

Why? You already have a hub, the source for the music sent to the ATV. Even if the ATV had an audio out, how would you bring the signal back into your network? Probably can be done but why bother?

In my current setup with ATV1...it is the source of music. I'm not streaming to it from PC....I've upgraded HD and stream my music from ATV1 using AirTunes throughout my house. It was a relatively inexpensive way to retrofit whole house audio without wiring or using more expensive solutions like Sonos.

In any case, I was hoping I could use the ATV4 in a similar way to stream Apple Music app (not my music catalog since I know there is no local storage) to Airport Express with attached speakers. This is where I'm stuck with only 1 audio output.

No one here could possibly know what Apple is planning in the future. If you want to add an audio output to the ATV4, then buy a audio extractor.

Understood. Nice approach. Best would be to stick with the ATV1.
