I tried listening to an audio book from my audible library by downloading it on to my mac, and then opening it in books. The books app prompts me to authenticate with audible, and upon clicking yes, it heads to the website but does nothing. On trying to open the book again, it simply shows the same previous message, thus forming a loop. I started searching the net for a solution to this problem and I came across a post about this same issue from a year or two ago, but no solution. I am unable to even deauthenticate books with audible(since the option is grayed out). I am used to listening to audiobooks on my mac, and while I certainly can hear them through the audible app on iOS, I do not wish to do so. Is there any possible solution or should I give up on audible?

I have that same issue on macOS Monterey. I'll be posting my own thread about it sometime this week, which will in include the answers I've gotten from both Audible and Apple. What version of MacOS are you using?

In my unsolicited opinion, nothing beats the ease of use of Libby on iOS devices.
Except we're trying to figure out how to access Audible on MacOS. I see Libby is available for MacOS. Can you play Audible audiobooks on Libby in MacOS, and sync those books to an iPod from Libby?

Edit: In reading about it online, it looks like Libby is an alternative to Audible rather than an alternative to iTunes/Books, and thus it seems you wouldn't be able to use Libby to listen to Audible books.
