Audio books start from beginning

Anybody else having an issue using the stock Apple Books app where audio books start from the beginning every time? I've resorted to taking screen shots when I get out of my car to remember where I leave off.

On an iPhone X running public beta
 
I do not have that problem. My problem is that the iBooks app will not open. Quite often I open it and get just a plain white screen, I then have to force close the app several times until it opens properly. Hopefully the new app in iOS 12 will be an improvement.
