Hi,

I have a M1 MacBook Air with a USB dongle providing DisplayPort video out to a SamSung U28R55 monitor. Almost everything works fine and I am happy to get 60hz 4K video. Unfortunately the audio does not work. I am able to get audio with the HDMI port, the current state of Apple's HDMI output with a 60hz monitor is pretty terrible. Has anyone gotten DisplayPort audio to work?

For anyone who is curious as to why I don't connect the Air directly to the stereo: I have a PC for work and selecting the input on the monitor switches the audio source to whatever I am looking at. This is extremely convenient. It also reduces the number of cables and allows me to have only one port on the Air in use.

Thank you in advance.

As far as I know you can't send an audio signal over DisplayPort. That's what's always been the major differentiator between HDMI (Multimedia) and DisplayPort.

Thanks. The wikipedia page says it does transmit audio, but I'm not sure that matters. If the answer is that no-one has ever done this then that is probably a good enough answer for me. I'll wait until apple fixes their HDMI or buy a bluetooth dongle.

DisplayPort can carry audio, but manufacturers aren't required to support it. I don't know for sure whether Apple does, but my gut says no.

Oh wow look at that you're right, DisplayPort does carry an Audio signal. I was completely unaware of that as I have never ever seen it implemented. Thanks.
