Audio from macbook pro to monitor

Hi all,

I'm wondering if this combo will work

Audio from macbook pro's mdp to dvi cord to hdmi to monitor.

Will audio

You would have to go straight from MDP to HDMI with a cable that supports audio, you can't go to DVI in the middle since DVI doesn't carry audio.

This also only works with certain recent models. Here's an article from Apple on the subject:

FYI some eariler MBPs didn't have audio on the MDP, make sure your model does before you spend a bunch of money on cables.

I wonder why with the new Macbook Pro Retina HDMI port, they didn't add sound output. That would of been beneficial.
