Audio Midi Setup- Audio Output not supported?

My C2D Blackbook has recently stopped outputting audio when streaming video with quicktime and I understand that this could be due to another application changing the audio output frequency. However, when I open Audio Midi setup to change the it to the correct frequency it says that audio output is not supported? This is bothering me so I would really appreciate some help.
