I have a MBP 15" 2010 with the faulty audio chip [1].

The workaround is to open Audio MIDI setup and change the audio output format from 16bit to 20bit. However, every time I reboot the setting is reset to 16bit.

Can I set a default, or is there a command that can be run through a boot up script?

[1] At low volumes through headphones, the sound is distorted and fuzzy.

what about your samplerate? is it set to 44.1 khz?
I believe so, the machine is not here at the moment to check. I do remember that altering the sample rate had no effect. Switching away from 16bit mode to anything else (20/24/32) cures the problem - and there are several reports of this around the net for most MacBook[-Pro] models.

I just want the setting to stick.
