Audio Problemo

Hey folks, I have some Harman/Kardon Soundsticks plugged into a USB port on my iMac. The thing is, whenever there is an alert sound like when an alert box comes up or I empty the trash, the sound plays through the built in speakers even though in the sound prefs it says "Play alerts and sound effects through: Soundsticks." All other audio is fine and comes out of the Soundsticks.

I've never tried connecting speakers through a USB port, but try going to Applications>Utilities>Audio Midi setup. On the audio devices tab, check where the System Output is going.
